pell grant overpayment and nslds

in june i paid off a pell grant overpayment. i was told that it would automatically come off of nslds. it is now september and it has not been removed (the DOE rep told me it would be removed in 90 days from the payment date, which was june 3rd.).

i have called several times to them on this and each time they tell me that they put in a request to have the offending item removed, but i am tired of waiting!!

i would like to know what should i do? they tell me that i could request a paid-in-full letter be faxed to my financial aid office, but that could take 48 hours to process (your slow government at work). should i give it more time or should i escalate matters?

a response from any financial aid officers/counselors or a knowledgeable poster will be welcome with open arms!!!

If your aid is being held up at this point due to the overpayment, request the paid in full letter be faxed. If that goes through before the overpayment record is removed from NSLDS, that would obviously benefit you.

I hope you requested the paid-in-full letter. It’s the fastest method. The aid office cannot process your aid without it, since NSLDS is not being updated fast enough.

i decided to request the paid-in-full letter tomorrow.

thanks kelsmom!

Good luck, misti53. I have dealt with many students who had to get a paid-in-full letter, and the aid office will get it quickly. Do keep in touch with them to make sure everything gets taken care of once the letter is received.
