My D is graduating in December. Her Pell amount is reduced this year because she worked all year, but is still a big help to her. Is it possible that she can get the full allocation of Pell that she would have had Fall/Spring all in the Fall, since she won't need it in the Spring? Thought someone here might have gone through that, because I have her ask financial aid. The tuition increase+some unexpectedly high lab costs have really hurt when combined with the decrease in Pell!

No you can’t get full-year Pell grant in a semester.

Depending on her schedule, she also may experience reduced loan eligibility - students who are graduating mid-year from an undergrad program must have their loan prorated based on enrolled credits. Sometimes prorating gives greater loan eligibility for the semester, though … if she has at least 12 credits, her eligibility should remain the same (assuming the school considers 12 credits as full time for finaid). If she has MORE, she will be eligible for more than one-half her loan amount for the term. She should talk to someone in her aid office about determining her actual eligibility based on graduating at the end of the fall term.

We will try not to take any additional loans. Just wondered about the Pell. It seemed worth a thought if the funds that don’t have to be paid back were legitimately available. Thanks for the response. She generally gets a bit more each year in scholarship monies by sending in an aid appeal, and this year made sure they knew she was only looking for one semester of additional funds, so that might also result in a bit more. If not, we’ll power through…almost done!!!
