pell grant

What to do if my pell grant was reduced because of class registration

Nothing you can do. Pell is granted for full time enrollment and reduced if you register for less than full time.

I guess you have the option of enrolling for more credits?

If you are in the process of dropping and adding classes, your Pell grant may go up & down with enrollment. If you add enough credits before the end of drop/add to be considered full time (12 or more), your Pell will be at 50% of the annual award amount for the semester … if not, it is reduced (8-11 credits = 37.5%; 6-10 credits = 25%, 1-5 credits - =12.5% of annual award amount).

@kelsmom

So if the student adds enough to be full time for the term, they will only get HALF of the semester allotment for the Pell? If they are full time, why wouldn’t they get the full semester Pell amount?

I think she said you will get half the annual Pell award each semester if you are full time 12+ units.

Got it…I misunderstood her post!

I thought about how to phrase it - it is confusing. I go with the annual award when I talk about Pell, because otherwise students don’t understand how it is 1/2 per semester & the amount received each semester depends on enrollment in that semester.

And. of course, saying 6 years or 12 semesters really confuses the situation … I am a big proponent of using %!
