Backstory,
My Daughter scored a SAT of 1250 in September of her Freshman year in high school. 4.0 UW GPA, Leadership in Beta club and a few others, swim team, and if it was available in AP, she took it. Scored 4’s on all AP tests. She is taking the SAT again this Saturday and has 4 SAT subject tests scheduled over the next 4 months. Will try to knock out a ACT or two during that time as well.
So, this was not challenging enough so after her sophomore year in high school she moved to the Kennesaw State University’s honors program (dual enrollment). She is on track to complete 100% of her core and have close to 65 credit hours by the time she graduates high school.
The question is, are the dual enrollment courses awarded the same weighting as a AP course? She has been told yes and no and we are struggling to get a clear answer before she applies for EA to UGA, UVA and a few Ivy’s this coming fall.
Thanks!
As a long time lurker, I felt compelled to create an account since your daughter’s numbers and story are virtually the same as my own daughter.
Long story short, in my opinion the answer is “maybe”.
We have been consistently told that UGa computes its own weighted grade point average. In that weighting, only core classes are considered, and only AP classes are given a 5. Dual enrollment classes, which my daughter has 15 as a graduating senior, are not given the bonus.
That said, I’m not entirely convinced its true. Or at a minimum, it’s part of a composite of numbers for EA. She had a 35 ACT superscore, and a 4.0 unweighted GPA. She was accepted early action, invited to the Honors program automatically, and invited to the Foundation Fellowship Interview Weekend. She had some killer extra curriculars, but I don’t think that impacts EA.
Your daughter is probably looking at 1500+ for a new SAT score. If that’s the case, I think she has an extremely good chance at EA next school year, and plenty of additional opportunities as well.
Good luck either way!
I think GA changed the weighting in the last few years ( at least for the HOPE scholarship) that AP and dual enrollment classes receive equal weighting.
Have a look at this blog post from UGA admissions. Read some of the comments. They may help clarify.

Regardless of the HS GPA weighting, your d seems like a great student and has taken a challenging class schedule which colleges will view favorably. She will have awesome opportunities.
