Hello all
I'm a senior in a Georgia magnet school, which I would like to think is decently rigorous and fairly high in ranking among other highschools. I've submitted my EA and am on the absolute edge of my proverbial chair. I was hoping to get opinions on my chances at getting into UGA Honors through the autoadmit. I spoke with the director of admissions and the director of the Honors program and they were rather cryptic about information regarding thresholds for admission.
SAT C/M/W 700/730/770
GPA U/W 3.79/4.02
12 Ap's by graduation, all magnet classes other than that.
My county doesn't endorse the rank system (which honestly is a blessing) but I'm ranked in the top ten percent of my class.
I'm fairly sure that AP scores don't play a role in this round of Honors admissions but if they do I can list those too.
Any responses are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
PS. Any thoughts on when they're releasing the EA decisions? The mystatus page is "close in order to prepare for the release of EA admissions".

Anyone in admissions cannot chance people since they simply do not know your full application or any circumstances.

Your rigor looks good as well as your SAT score, however, your GPA is fairly low for Honors and UGA really likes GPA. AP scores don’t matter but will simply help you when registering.

I think you will definitely get in early, but it’s a toss-up on whether you will be auto-admitted to the Honors program. You can, however, always apply to Honors after being admitted EA. I think you should definitely try.

They usually release decisions right before the holiday break (around mid-December).

Follow UGA admissions which is where they keep applicants updated on the admission process. I’m pretty sure last year they released decisions in November.

My daughter is also anxiously awaiting and the Admissions office tweeted today (as well as put on the blog) that they expect to have EA decisions posted online sometime Friday afternoon. As far as Honors, we attended an event at UGA on Monday and if you aren’t automatically accepted into Honors, you can apply later as the previous poster mentioned. If you aren’t accepted then, you can apply after your first semester as a freshman and they only look at your first semester information - no high school grades or SAT/ACT scores are taken into consideration. That is the final chance to get into Honors. Good luck!

And FYI decisions are going to be released later today.

The UGA honors program keeps getting more and more competitive, but it’s definitely worth applying to! I’m a current sophomore in the program and I can say it’s been much more than I ever thought it could be.

Honors classes are much better. They’re smaller in size (discussion-based 30 student class instead of a lecture of 300), taught by more experienced faculty (professors that completely changed my way of thinking), and are generally graded less harshly because the professors know you could handle busywork and instead give you meaningful application-based assignments.

The honors program does everything they can to help you succeed. They host alumni events, honors speakers, an online networking system, the Center for Undergraduate Research, and offer many opportunities to get to know faculty. For students looking to go the med school route, many professors will see the honors name and be more willing to allow students to work with them on their research.

Myers, the honors dorm, is far nicer than any of the other dorms available to freshmen. I enjoyed having clean bathrooms, a large room, a nice, open lobby, study rooms on each floor, and living with the community of people taking the same classes as me. Myers is more or less social from year to year but I met all of my current friends there and found most people to be quite open. The location is great, on the Myers quad, nestled between two dining halls, and surrounded by bus stops. However, if you choose, you can always live elsewhere.

Honors students have early registration so you always get the schedule you want, which takes away a lot of stress.

Let me know if you have any other questions! I don’t log onto CC much but shoot me an email at amandaco@uga.edu and I’d be happy to talk through any decisions with you. Good luck and go dawgs!
