<p>an amazingly technical question: Is HB pencil same as Number 2 pencil?
In Europe there are no such thing as No 2, No 3. Pencils are denoted in letter HB , B and so on. So what pencil is best for the SAT?</p>
<p>^The U.S. system uses numbers for pencil leads, unlike the rest of the world.</p>
<h1>1 = B</h1>
<h1>2 = HB</h1>
<h1>2.5 = F</h1>
<h1>3 = H</h1>
<p>Not sure what the US equivalents are for 2B, 3B, etc…</p>
<p>Use #2/HB for the SAT. It probably would be OK to use other numbers, but you may as well play it safe.</p>
