Penn '10 -- Anyone from french lyc

I’m from a french lyc

I'm in a french lycee in San Francisco! Terminale ES. I didn't apply to Penn, but you're the first person in the French system I've seen on these boards.

awesome! i'm terminale S. It seems as though there aren't many of us applying to american universities since most of my friends are going to europe. where do u want to go to college?

Yeah, a lot of people in my class are going back to France. Basically, I want to go to NYU or Univ. of Chicago, realistically. I also have a couple of Ivys on my list and some UCs and stuff.

So you want to go to Penn?

wow, this is the most unexpected post I've ever seen.. In New York we get abou 70% going to american colleges.. 2 of us going to Upenn (Early). I'm jon by the way

You're going to Penn? Lucky. For some reason we don't get into many good colleges at our school. UC Berkeley is the best one people get into. (And the only good one, I may add.)

we used to have bad acceptances, and as of late they got a new guidance counselor. Now we get 10-15 ivys every year. we already have 8 in early Ivy

Our counselor is always so busy doing other things that she doesn't have much time to help us. I think we have the potential to get into competitive colleges and we can certainly succeed in them. I don't know about your school, but ours it about 100 times more difficult than an American HS (even a private one). It's time consuming and very hard... I'm not sure if American colleges understand what it is to get 4.0 (I have the best GPA in my class with a 3.9). And our counselor doesn't seem to be explaining that to them. Anyways, Berkeley is obviously my best shot as it's the only school that understands our HS.

How did you ever get good enough SAT scores to get into Penn? Aren't atandardized tests hard for you since there aren't any in the French system? They're certainly hard for me... My scores suck.

For the SAT's I did have a hard time at first. but I bought a book and did a whole lot of them. I ended up with decent scores (not bad but not amazing) M710 V740 W700.. I think it was my essays and the fact that our counselor really sells our "multicultured background" and the fact that my maths teacher showed them that our Maths was so hard that made a difference

i guess i'll see you at penn lejuif! i got accepted ED into the College. At the French Lycee in Washington we usually get 3-4 ivies max. JackBauerPowerHour: if ur counselor isnt good at selling the school, u should try to do it urself in ur essays. i guess its a little late since deadlines have passed but i do wish u good luck.

are either of you on MSN or AIM?

how long have u guys been in the french system? and what are ur backgrounds

I wish I had your SAT scores. Those are good. And I did sort of "sell the school" in some of my essays but not in most as I didn't want to talk only about my diversity blah blah. Too overused in my opinion. I personally couldn't find a way to make it interesting so I didn't talk too much about it. I talked more about my academic and intellectual interests and stuff like that.

I have MSN. What's your SN?
