Penn 2017 ED Discussion Thread

HI EVERYONE!!!

im applying to seas ED. do you think i have a shot as a women?

@Danimals510: like you, I’m a Wharton ED applicant. My interviewer is a Wharton alum. Don’t know if that’s always going to be the case, but I would think it’s what Penn aims for.

How are you planning to dress for your interview? Mine is at a coffee shop, so I don’t plan on showing up in a suit…

Yeah, what exactly is the dress policy? I don’t really have anything that’s more formal than jeans but more casual than slacks. Also, would it be weird if I came wearing my Wharton sweater?

My username says it all. Give up a leg for Penn? I’d give up both and probably an arm too. I’ve already given up my heart since freshman year. Any other Wharton ED candidates from the SF bay area particularaly the east bay and contra costa county? I’m curious.

Oh btw, how long did it take for an interviewer to get into contact with you?

^I think it depends on when you submitted your app and the number of available local interviewers.

Your dedication for Penn is admirable… Personally, I would keep my appendages, even if that meant going to community college or not at all.

How about the rest of you? Maybe we can steer the topic away from the panic and stress of waiting and towards some more entertaining questions in the meantime :D

To whoever asked what to wear to the interview: I’m a guy and I wore a v-neck sweater over a short sleeved collared shirt, nice khaki pants and sperrys.

Thanks for the responses guys.
I just got my Penn portal email, and I’m linked to Penn’s portal page. But when I click on the “My Applicant Portal” part, I get a blank page that just says “An error occurred while processing the request. Try refreshing your browser. If the problem persists contact the site administrator.”

Anybody else run into this, or am I not going to the right link?

Re: Clothing–I have two X chromosomes, so I’ll be wearing a black-and-white print dress under a vintage purple blazer. I’ll probably roll the sleeves up to look more casual. I’m aiming for business casual.

@Danimals510: I’d contact an admissions officer and ask. I have no problems accessing my account.

How do they select applicants for interviews? Is it really all random or do they take a peak at your stats first to narrow the pool and choose from there? I’ve heard it both ways…

I’m also having trouble accessing the site

Interviewers are alumni who volunteer to interview. They are not given any part your application, other than your contact information to contact to you for an interview. Applicants are not chosen from a short list/narrowed pool or anything like that. Whether you will get an interview depends on solely on if there are volunteers are in the area you live.

I contacted the Admissions Office and they told me to email the eapps account. Though based on what you guys have been saying, I doubt they’ll get back to me quickly enough for the Penn financial aid supplement…

Also, I didn’t notice that the Parental ED agreement gets wiped out if you make another version of the Common App, so I didn’t turn it until last night (which was technically the 8th for EST). Will this affect my chances at all?

^I don’t think they’ll be that strict about the deadline.

Eapps never replied to my email(s)… It’s been a week or so :/

Do you guys still have the “Please allow time for your application documents to be processed. Tracking will be available shortly.” page?

Oh ok, the portal just doesn’t work with Google Chrome. .__.

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if I should be worried if I haven’t received my UPENN portal if I submitted it two-three days ago.

^Nah, give it a couple more days. I got mine a week after.

Just had my Penn interview! It lasted a little over 2 hours… can’t guarantee that I didn’t bore my interviewer to death though ;)

December 15th, come faster!
