Penn CAS Transfer

Hi everyone! I haven’t been to the forums since the changeover to the new format. So here goes:
I’m a freshman at Georgetown University, and I am interested in transferring to the College at the University of Pennslvania. I applied for freshman admission and was denied. Actually, I didn’t even really like it until after i was denied and a friend got in and i learned more about it,lol.

Anyway, about me:
African American male, freshman at Georgetown. Had a 3.69/4 GPA in high school, 1340 SAT I(680V, 660M). SAT IIs(not mandatory for Penn)-690Writing, 630Math IC, 630US History.
-Fall Semester grades aren’t out yet, but I’m expecting around a 3.6. I took: Modern Astronomy, Healthcare in America, Intro to Comp Sci, and Intro to Philosophy:Freedom.(I withdrew from Physiological Psychology b/c it was WAY too hard for me. It’s an upper level course, I was the only freshman in the class as well. I talked to the prof and he agreed w/ my decision. I was going WAY too fast into psych i guess. My advisor also said it’s better to have a W on your transcript than a D-F.) Next semester i’m hoping to take: Cognitive Neuroscience, Calc, English, Intro to Catholic Theology(requirement), and Bioethics. I already have an A-/3 credits in general psych when i took it at Gtown during the summer, and I have 3 credits/B+ in Abnormal Psych when i took it at a local college at home.
-I’m involved in: GU Symphony Orchestra, Georgetown Admissions Ambassadors Program(high school visit program), Georgetown Campus Ministry(lector, eucharistic minister, liturgy coordinator), and the International Relations Club(i’ll be a rapporteur in the Legal Committee at the North American Invitational Model UN high school conference)
-I also have a job. I work at University Information Services. I work in two divisions: Hoya Computing, where I lend software to faculty, students, and staff, and I also am the apple computer specialist. I also work at the Service Desk, which is the general student tech help desk. We help w/ viruses/spyware/adware, general problems(configuring wireless, etc.), and giving out media adapters for ethernet connections.

I’m interested in transferring to Penn, b/c of it’s One University policy. I’d like to take some healthcare management courses in Wharton(i took Healthcare in America here), and maybe an engineering course(no engineering school here). They have a joint healthcare managment and biological basis of behavior minor, which seems interesting to me. They also have the Penn Band, which allows string players to join as well(so i’ve heard, if so, that’s a very unique opportunity).

I’m going to send in a music tape of me playing the viola(probably one of our songs for orchestra).

So can anyone provide me with tips of what i should be doing b/w now and March 15? I don’t really have any college awards, so I’m worried about that part of the app. What else can I do to be a better candidate? I REALLY love Penn, and want to go SO badly(I got denied and am applying again, so I hope that might show interest…). I love Georgetown, but it doesn’t have everything I want to do, and if it did, i’d gladly stay. I’m only applying to Penn, b/c I have a guaranteed transfer offer to Cornell(i sent the form confirming my continued interest in the offer 2 wks ago, and they just sent a huge catalogue of info or something home. I’ll find out over thxgiving break).

So any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

bump please:)

what was wrong with georgetown?

something doesn't have to be wrong with a school for you to want to transfer. I feel like Penn(or Cornell for that matter) would better allow me to do what I want to do during my undergrad career. I'd like to take an engineering course or two, and Gtown doesn't have engineering departments. Also, Penn allows you to take courses in all of its schools, whereas, Gtown restricts most of its courses(except the College) to students in that school. I'd love to take some courses in the Nursing and Health Studies school here, but the vast majority of course are only for NHS students. Penn has a biological basis of behavior/healthcare management dual interschool minor, which is EXACTLY what i want to do.
Among other reasons, I prefer Penn and Cornell over Gtown, though i love it. If Gtown had everything I wanted to study, I would gladly stay. However, your academic goals do evolve while in college. Gtown is an amazing, prestigious school, with an amazing campus, great professors(great accessibility too), great area, School of Foreign Service and the School of Nursing and Health Studies provide unique academic opportunities to students in those schools, etc.

Anyway, does anyone who has experience with transfer admissions have any tips on the process, etc.? Thanks.

bump, does anyone have any advice, specifically current transfers? Thanks.
