*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

@TheWaffleMan149 You sure about that? My term ends this Tuesday, and my guidance counselor says my school sends colleges first-term grades. Do they not review them because there are different term dates for everyone? I am not worried about RD/Deferred schools. There is absolutely no chance I would be deferred and then accepted from Penn. The only reason I may be deferred rather than rejected is because of legacy to be honest. That is why I would probably rather be rejected outright than deferred. It allows you to focus more on other schools, and I chose not to attach myself 100% to any school until I got in (so that I wouldn’t be devastated if I didn’t).

@emilyskates Geez, those are good grades. My problem is also AP English. Lang and Comp to be more specific. For our school, that class is run almost solely based on journalistic writing, which I have no knowledge of/was not taught how to write/am really bad at, so I am going to end the term with a B or a B+. 80% of my first term grade was based on two essays!!! Absolute bogus.

@ all of you If I ever were to run into any of you at an admitted students day or something like that, that would be either wicked cool or wicked awkward, depending on whether you guys were completely making up stuff or not. I always felt that people on CC tried to present themselves as something they weren’t, which I could for the life of me never understand, but if y’all are presenting yourselves truthfully, it would be awesome to run into any of you. It would be even funnier if any of us ran into each other at somewhere other than Penn.

Speaking of which, is anyone here from the Boston area and applying to Penn? I haven’t found anyone yet who is.

@Najubhai I didn’t apply as a QB finalist, but I did apply for FA if that means anything lol. It doesn’t.

@jarrett211 Absolutely. They can’t review midterm grades for one candidate, but not for another. It wouldn’t be “fair,” as the admissions process supposedly is anyways. I would rather be outright rejected as well. I do not want to be clutching onto some fraction of a chance of getting in for months…
I’m a legacy too :smiley:

@TheWaffleMan149 I hope you are right.

I have heard that first term grades or any sort of grades senior year (at least for ED/EA) are ONLY used when adcoms are on the fence about people. Normally, they’ll call the school for the grades.

I just realized that Penn’s decision date for ED is December 11. Two days after my birthday. Can’t wait to be rejected from my top choice on my birthday!! <:-P

@jarrett211 I wouldn’t worry about the AP Lang grade. Mr Lee probably sympathizes with the whole college thing

I sent in my first quarter grades bc they were good, they said it could help (i called) but they dont look at it if you dont mention it so no harm
and @emilyskates i have the all rejections nightmare allll the time combined with the constant worry #twinz :stuck_out_tongue:

@jarrett211 i am!

@fedoraloungeking Oh boy, second person from my high school I’ve seen on this site. Be careful, they can ban you for giving away information like that, and I know how much students at our school love to use this site lol. And by the way, Mr. Lee truncates in case you were curious, and he doesn’t really help us with grades. He also doesn’t really like me because I never do anything in class. You know what I’m talking about.
@IvyWin Awesome. Curious to ask have you received an interview yet? I still haven’t.
@ComputerAge and @VaishS My school sends first-term grades regardless.

@jarrett211 nope

@IvyWin Good to know. I was getting worried that I might have messed something up, but if people in my area haven’t been contacted then that makes sense.

I’m secretly hoping I don’t get an interview…

@shadyconcepts Once I got my SAT scores on my birthday and I thought that was bad, but this is definitely worse for you…and have some faith! Oh and if I remember you from your chance thread correctly-I’m also thinking about applying NYU ED 2 #twinning

@emilyskates The fact is that 92% of applicants last year got contacted for interviews. With numbers like that, I sincerely doubt you are going to be lucky enough to be one of the 8%. But secretly, I hope not as well.

@emilyskates You statistically have a better chance of getting into Penn than not getting an interview
That 8% was probably people in extremely remote areas of the US, or in other countries.

@TheWaffleMan149 @jarrett211 And I live in upstate NY lol I guess there’s no way I’m not getting an interview. Interviews don’t matter much, do they?

@emilyskates Yes ED twins!!! Hope to see u at whatever school we end up at :slight_smile:

also, don’t worry about the interview! i just had mine on friday (i live in NJ) and it was super chill. they ask u really basic questions and it’s a really easygoing conversation!

No @emilyskates they do not. They are just checking to make sure that you are not a major drug addict/ are somewhat reasonably intelligent. Don’t be concerned. Mine was yesterday, and consisted of 3 questions total. I had more questions for her than she had for me.

hahaha regular ivy day was on my birthday for a few years now :frowning: why is penn earlier than the other ivies for early though D:

I’ve got dat June bday doe
I sympathize with you mid December peeps
