I am applying ED to the Huntsman Program in international studies and business. Is anyone else applying to Huntsman?
Hey guys, quick question here. Is Wharton really harder than CAS to get into? Everything I’ve heard is that it is a bit harder, but the two seem pretty comparable.
The admission rate for Wharton is lower than the admit rate for CAS, if that is what you mean by “harder.”
However, I suspect that if you have ECs in business, but none in CAS subjects, then CAS might be harder to get into. I think you should usually apply for the school you have the most interest in attending, and more experience in. If you want to study business, and have taken business classes, and have business ECs, then I would recommend applying to Wharton regardless of the admission rate. You have to choose a place where you will be happy. Trying decide by admission rate is rarely a good idea.
@Much2learn I’m applying at Wharton no matter what, since business is my passion. I was just wondering since popular consensus seems to be that Wharton is harder but in terms of admissions both seem to be just as hard.
Hi guys! Quick question. I’m applying to Wharton and have a medley of extracurriculars in different areas (business, MUN, science, etc.) However, I heard that admissions officers dislike it when applicants participate in different activities without a clear focus in one area. Should I leave the science-related extracurriculars off my application?
The important thing about ECs is the strength of your best ECs. I don’t think the broader ECs are a negative.
Agreed ^. Wharton often doesn’t even care if you don’t have business EC’s. As long as you have shown that you have excelled in one area, it doesn’t matter how many you do.
I could use some opinions from yall. So i’m applying ED to LSM because my interests, ECs, and all that involve both business and life sciences, but I’m not too sure which second-choice school would better fit my “profile.” Of course, fit is important, especially to penn, and I would love to attend either school, but I can’t tell where I would be a stronger candidate. For CAS, my highlights would be 7 honors science courses, 4 of which were life sciences, founder of biology club, and three years (summers) in a research lab studying herpetology and cancer. For Wharton, my highlights would be taking econ a year early in hs (noted in gc letter), doing an independent study in asset allocation (taking place during my senior year), being “one of three” nominated to attend the Harvard Summer Business Academy, and a summer internship (this summer) in the economic development department of my town working with small businesses. I apologize for the info dumping, but what do you guys think?
^Oh and I also took an online marketing course from Wharton through coursera and I can reference those profs
That’s a question that only you can figure out @Pepenn123 Whichever school best aligns to your interest you should apply to.
hey guys, i’m applying ED for Biological Basis of Behavior (BBB). I took AP Chemistry junior year, and I’m taking AP Biology my senior year. I was wondering if it would be beneficial to swap out a global studies class for AP Physics (I would be doubling up in my sciences). Is that a good idea, or would I go into stress overload?
i’m kind of on the borderline about whether to apply or not haha
@rumorsareflying go for it! Penn is ED, not Restrictive so you can still apply early wherever you want to.
Provided of course you don’t ED somewhere else.
Anyone have an estimate of how many ED applicants apply to Wharton? Curious.
For the class of 2018, it was 5,141.

The 5,141 applicants EDed to Penn in total. I do not think they released a breakdown by school, or just for Wharton.
Around how many do they admit ED?
@IvyWin Total Admitted : 1,299 (25%)for ED
@Gatortristan Thanks for the stat! Looks like Penn favors its ED applicants.
