*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

Hi everyone! So I am an International Applicant to Wharton and I haven’t seen a lot of those around here. Anyone from Asia, perhaps?

I’ve been casually observing and reading the Penn thread here for a while, but I’m an ED applicant from North Carolina. I have two things on my mind at the moment. First, I have yet to be contacted about an interview. I totally get that not everyone gets one and that not being contacted isn’t necessarily a bad sign, etc, etc, but its still unsettling because I think interviews work to my benefit.

So has anyone from the Charlotte, NC area been contacted for an interview?

Second, the craziness surround the submission of scores from the CB. I got my ACT score in just fine well before the Nov. 1 deadline, but my SAT IIs were a total mess despite ordering rush delivery. First I received an email from the CB saying they were delayed about a week before the Nov. 1 deadline and that I would be refunded. No big deal, I can understand that given the testing volume in October. However, I then receive an email notification from CB the Friday before the ED deadline indicating that they got all my scores through and that date was at that time corroborated on my sent score report in my CB account. I was thrilled and the needless angst had been lifted. Well… I received an email yesterday from CB saying that they had just now straightened out all the delayed score reports and sure enough they had changed the delivery date on my digital score report for Penn to the 11th of this month. I’d almost be entertained if it wasn’t something as serious as admissions…

I understand they accept scores through the end of November and I know they’re aware of the CB delays, but how can they wait so long to receive scores and manage to send out acceptance letters on the 11th? Seems like a tight window, but then again Dean Furda may be a superhuman.

@alfred500 - Let me answer your question - straight, in absolute terms - from personal experience.

  1. You will be contacted for an interview, shortly. They are getting to the ED students now.
  2. Don't waste your time trying to justify & rationalize which scores to send or NOT. If you have SAT and/or ACT, send them "ALL SCORES" (for ACT, SAT I and SAT II), to avoid any regrets, later.
  3. Penn is allowing a self reporting link, in case CB states delay. Surely use that option.

I spent a lot of time arguing, justifying and legal reading but after I spoke with the admissions office, it became very clear that they want to see all scores - pure and simple.

@shivaya Thanks for the quick response, but I think you may have misread my post. I absolutely acknowledge their ALL SCORES policy and sent my score report accordingly. I was reflecting on the three emails I have received from the CB thus far, two of which contradicted one another, with regards to score delivery delays.

Is anyone out there in love with Penn as much as I that they’d be willing to transfer?

(REALLY URGENT)
Guys, I applied ED. On your applicant portals, there is a list of ‘received’ items right?
For ‘Counselor recommendation’ Does it say they have received it? because for me, there is no counselor recommendation on the list of required items.

@my2020 The Counsellor Recommendation is part of your School Report. If it says ‘Received’, then they have received the LOR as well.

Agree with @julia1984 . There is no “Counselor Recommendation” item but “School Report” should include the counselor’s recommendation.

LOR from teacher 1& 2 should be listed separately.

I found it weird that Penn got my SAT scores 12 hours after I sent it. Maybe all they need for SAT is the self-report option on common app.

Penn gets scores from College Board electronically, in theory, instantly.

Even if you send scores electronically it takes CB up to two weeks to process and and send them.
Also, is it bad that I mentioned clubs in my essay but not any specific clubs I want to do.

@julia1984 yes! i’m from china

@stehyh ooh! Wharton, is it? Btw I’m from India

Indian Wharton Applicant here as well

@ShaunakK98 Have you been given the details of your interview? Time, date etc. etc.?
