@VaishS No not really! My interviewer was very friendly and laid-back. We talked about my high school, Penn, our biggest fears, what we do during our free time, etc. I told her some funny stories from my clubs and activities. She told me about her life at Penn, and how she and her roommates organized/decorated their dorm rooms. I also asked her about some new programs that she strangely had no clue about. Stressing too much about it seems to make things awkward. Just imagine it as talking to an aunt/uncle.
ok awesome! thank you so much @toffys
Has anyone applied for Penn’s financial aid yet for Early Decision? It’s been more than 48 hours since I submitted my app and the financial aid supplement link still hasn’t appeared in my portal yet… I just went ahead and submitted the CSS Profile and federal tax returns though
It took my son about 48 hours after ED app submittal to receive login info. With that login info it is possible to complete the Penn financial aid forms. good luck.
FYI: Penn considers the interview to be a conversation. You get to ask about Penn and we get to ask you some questions. The questions are not trick questions nor are they logic questions. We are not out to get you. It is not a grilling. It is not an inquisition. You cannot prepare for it. The sample questions you find on the web will not be asked by most - we are not fools - we know that sample questions are all over the www and why would we ask them?
While most interviews are 1 hr. some turn out to be a bit longer or shorter. Don’t infer anything from the length of the conversation.
Most people consider that the conversation has little to no weight. I continue to stress, tho many disagree, that the interviwer report at times can be of interest to Admissions. Perhaps I am biased - but I have been interviewing for a very long time and have interviewed a large number of applicants. I firmly believe, maybe it is my ego, that my report in some instances had some to considerable weight. Again, if an applicant insults me, is disagreeable, is considerably rude the report will state this. I cannot edit what happens in an interview/conversation. About 10 - 15 % of the kids I interview are beyond disagreeable and get a negative report. . M ind you manners and good luck.
@pickpocket Thanks! I just got the form link this morning.
Has anyone tried to submit their forms/parents’ federal tax returns, W-2 forms for ED financial aid to the online document submission website? I keep getting a 500 Internal Server Error when I try to submit my forms -_-
The link appeared today on my portal. I did submitted all files yesterday via document submission website. Did twice, all very smoothly.
@f2000sa Did you submit half of your documents at once? In other words, should I use two cover sheets? I think I received the error message because I submitted too much at once
I sent three files at once using one cover sheet. The file size limit is 25MB. it is hard to exceed it.
@f2000sa Thanks for your advice! I managed to send all my forms in two turns. (It was under 25 MB, but I think it was too close to the file limit to be able to be sent)
DO it one at a time. Thats how I did
@amanivy May I ask out of curiosity how one might be disagreeable? Does the interviewer ask a question that makes a student upset and the student responds out of anger? Are the students just plain arrogant? 10-15% seems a bit alarming to me as an applicant. Would you mind giving an example of an answer to a question that may be the type of disagreeableness that you are referring to. I would understand that something such as racism would be condemned or some other derogatory remark, but I struggle to see how potentially 10-15% of people do something awful enough to be written about. Of course, if you feel more secure not sharing a question out of confidentiality and a requirement to make the process fair for all, I completely understand.
@amanivy I also have the same question as @jarrett211. Considering that they are all applicants to an Ivy League university you would think they could at least behave and be “agreeable”
Just contacted for an interview. Lol, apparently the person knows my dad pretty well. Does it matter if the interviewer’s profession is something completely irrelevant to that which I want to pursue?
@TheWaffleMan149 No it doesn’t matter. You have the Penn connection, so a good interview should be able to flow regardless. In fact, different experiences may help the conversation progress. Mind I ask when you applied and what area you are from? I applied more than 3 weeks ago but still haven’t been contacted yet .
I applied on the 27th and am from PA
I am a legacy though (grandpa), so that may have something to do with it. I am terrified!
@TheWaffleMan149 Hmmm. Being from Pennsylvania may explain it since there are so many applicants and since there has got to be a huge number of alumni available. Legacy wouldn’t be the explanation in my opinion though because I have legacy through my father (undergrad at Wharton). And don’t worry about it. Honestly just don’t bomb it and you’ll be fine. It carries very little to no weight from what I hear. Would anyone know how being from Boston would affect when I may be contacted?
Most of Penn students are from PA followed by east coast states (and CA). Anyone from the midwest been contacted for an interview (@vaishS is one)?
