I just finished my interview with an LSM alum! It ended up being a phone interview because of the distance. It was pretty short (about 45 mins), but we managed to cover a lot in that time. I was also the first student he ever interviewed, so that added an interesting twist. I can’t believe decisions are about 5 weeks away (12/11) X_X ! Hope to see all of you on the other side.
Does anyone know whether Penn releases the number of ED applications before decisions? ED applications were higher in 2014 than 2013. Just wondering whether the trend continues. Good luck to everyone.
@penndad2020 http://www.thedp.com/article/2015/11/record-high-5629-early-decision-applicants-in-class-of-2020
i applied october 31st and got an interview email on the 2nd so i seriously dont know gahh im so nervous
so according to that DP article the decisions come out n Friday, Dec. 11.
Is it possible that this year Penn will be like “Everyome expects us to admit a huge number of people ED, so let’s admit very few ED”
@TheWaffleMan149 That wouldn’t make any sense. They want to admit 2,420 people every year. They will continue to do that. This year it’s just going to be a bit more selective overall with 140 more applicants this year ED than last year. It should still be around 55% of the class is from ED, at worst 50%.
So you still see 50ish percent of the class being filled ED?
EDIT Lol @jarrett211 just saw your edit
ED is a school’s best bet to get the best talents. If someone can get admission in UPenn in RD, they can (most likely) get into similar or better schools. Most schools love ED for this exact reason - binding contract and a student who is confident enough to identify their #1 school.
These days with the ROI of education and job prospects is terrible, spending a ton of money is simply not worth it.
IMHO, schools will (should) fill up more from their ED pools. The percentage should grow this year and in the coming years; unless the economic conditions and job prospects change.
@TheWaffleMan149 think positive
Just got an email for an interview. I know many people have advised against it but should I bring in a resume as a sort of ‘ice breaker’?
@Najubhai nahh use current events or some activity you have in common as an ice breaker. I think the point of the interview is to get to know you apart from your “numbers” and extra curricular. Its supposed to be just a relaxed talk
does anyone know what time admissions would be released on the 11th? Like when are they normally released? (trying to set a countdown on my phone)
@VaishS I think Penn normally releases decisions at 5:00 PM, but I can’t speak specifically to what they’ll do this year
@VaishS Not in my nature
So… 5 weeks, 23 hours, and 52 minutes
@Najubhai Do it. They will probably ask about your extracurricular activities.
I don’t want to wait D:
I think they should accept 100% of class ED
I submitted early hoping that the admissions office will take some early action. Imagine how it is like to wait for so looooong!.
Sometimes, it seems best is to submit a few days before the deadline.
I totally agree that it would be fantastic if they decide to accept 100% of the ED applicants - maybe just this year :))
Does anyone know if interviews factor more into your decision if you have them earlier? Since mine is Saturday, I am concerned that it will play a bigger part in the process. (As you can probably tell, I worry a lot :P)
