Penn doesn't care if I flunk certain AP exams... right?

Now that I'm in, I'm keeping my grades where they need to be, but come April/May there is no way I'm killing myself over reviewing for certain AP's if I can still end the year with an A on my transcript. Now that I know where I'm going next year, I'm budgeting my time a little by choosing which AP credits I feel I would benefit most from at Penn based on what I'm planning on studying.

So let's say that scores are released in July and I get like, a 2 on Calc BC... doesn't matter, right? And I can send Penn my other scores but not that one?

Yeah, I'm a paranoid College Board idiot...

If you don't feel like studying for certain AP's, why not just not take them? It would be bad if you didn't take any of your AP's, but if you take the ones in the classes you care about and skip the rest they're not going to care. Why waste $80 to take an exam that you are planning on failing?

depending on your major its definitely worth it to get a 5 on BC

but no, they dont really care about the scores

tickytock14: I'm planning on majoring in English, but am interested in also pursuing psychology/Spanish/environmental science (and will probably pick up some new interests along the way)... so I'm looking at the seven "Sectors" that I have to fulfill. It says that "the Sector Requirement may not be satisfied with Advanced Placement credit (including A-Levels, I.B., and other similar credit based on external examination)" and that "Sector VII may be satisfied by taking one course from the Sector VII list or an additional Living World or Physical World course." Sector VII is the math one, and there are plenty of courses in Living World that interest me... so could I basically just not take math? If I got a 5 on BC, it's one c.u., but would it really help me if it doesn't even fulfill the sector?

danr47: My school has this policy that pretty much ropes us into taking all the AP's that we had originally signed up for and that appear on our transcripts, so I have to at least show up and fill out my name. :( That's one tihng motivating me to actually try on BC... my parents are paying a ****load.

oh, that sucks. at our school we dont have to take the actual ap if we dont want. that sucks that your school has that policy. im takng 6 aps right now and two are physics and econ, so i would have 8 exams this spring, but im only planning on taknig 4 or 5 of them. thank god my school doesnt have that policy

yea we HAVE to take them also...

So if you can't use the credits for the sector requirements what can you use them for?

Whenever you take an AP test, you own the score to your test. This means that you can choose to release the score on a test-by-test basis. Colleges do not even know that you have taken an AP until you release the score for that test. You can release as many or as few AP scores as you like, and whichever scores you do not release, it is as if you did not take it.

meh. my school requires us to take it...even half of my APs are pretty much worthless anyway. and the school is also PAYING for ALL of my exams
