Penn ED Decisions: Dec 10th or 15th? Please weigh in.

am i not supposed to be able to log into that link yet? haha because i tried and it wouldn’t do anything…

^ It won’t work until there’s a decision there waiting for you. :)

there is no abundance of athletes… the seniors graduate every year and they bring in freshman to replace… year after year… kinda like the night and day they just replace each other without question

By the way, for those who may think that the quality of this ED applicant pool has been diluted by the increase in the number of applicants, here’s what President Amy Gutmann said today in an email sent to alumni and other members of the Penn community, for what it’s worth:

@45 Percenter,

Oh…my…god…

30% admit rate; thus only 1362 of the 4,557 will be accepted! How terrifying!

Also with increased URMs, that doesn’t fair too well for us without URM advantage.

As I’ve said previously, I don’t believe that Penn will accept more than 50% of the target class of 2400 through ED, meaning that there probably won’t be more than 1200 ED acceptances (last year’s number), so that the ED admit rate will be around 26%. I could be wrong about that, but I’d be very surprised if Penn accepted more than 50% of the target class through ED.

I have URM advantage and legacy advantage, but I don’t know how much of an advantage anyone can have in a pool of applicants that is so competitive. I actually thought this over. Last year the class of 2014’s ED admit rate was 31.2% but they accepted 1200 students. If they only accept 1200 students this year again than the ED rate this year will go down to 26.3% !

^ Yep.

We’ll all know in a couple of weeks. ;)

que sera, sera.
if we don’t get into penn, we’ll end up somewhere that we’re meant to be.
no biggie.

I APPLAUD AVENLEA
so how sure are we that it is indeed december 10? Who of you actually spoke to an adcom?

No, in a couple of days! Let’s not forget what has been confirmed: [Countdown to Dec 10, 2010 3:00 PM in Miami](<a href=“Time since Dec 10, 2010 3:00 pm started in Miami”>Time since Dec 10, 2010 3:00 pm started in Miami)

;) And I like your way of thinking @avenlea! I’ve been accepted to Drexel University and if I am not, God forbid, accepted to Penn, than I can still immerse myself in the Penn community and hopefully apply as a transfer. But it would just be much more fun to just get accepted on the 10th!

^ increase in URMs? I really think affirmative action is unfair and ■■■■■■■■

aw man drexel! i really wanted to apply there haha but my dad heard it’s in a bad part of philly.
i got accepted to indiana u with good scholarship money! so i’m going to college at least. but i agree, getting into penn would be awfully nice haha. but there’s also the thing of having my parents empty their bank accounts the minute i get into penn -__- i feel like not getting in would be a blessing and a curse, as would be getting in.
stay strong guys, seriously. like i know how stressful it is (cause i’m stressing out myself) but we seriously just gotta remind ourselves, that if we don’t get in/get in/get deferred, there’s a reason for it and we’ll end up happier at some other school. whether there was an increase of URM’s this year or if no URM’s applied, it’s not big deal…i highly doubt like 40 more URMs applying would significantly change the outcome of who was accepted or not. we’ve already sealed our fates and we’ll end up where we need to go. whether that be harvard or community college (hopefully not the latter, hehe :))

Drexel is right next to Penn… you literally walk across the street… how is it in a bad neighborhood?

^ I was going to say that. I think the Penn campus is actually closer to the “bad” parts of West Philly.

This is incredibly nerve-racking. 9 days to go!

you’re right, Penn is closer to the “badder” parts of West Philly. There was actually a shooting at Penn like last week. Wasn’t Penn students or anything, but the police shot and killed a guy on Locust Walk. It was like 3 in the morning though so not a lot of students were out.

^ It was the end of a chase by police that started 10 blocks away (around 50th Street).

my friend who visited drexel said that the campus was basically the opposite of penn even though it was right across the street, but i don’t know, i could be COMPLETELY wrong, i admit it lol

It’s literally across the street, that is correct, which is why we’re all wondering why your dad was so adverse to you attending there, when he was clearly fine with you going to Penn!
