Penn Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

It isn’t even a conspiracy. The theory is this school is so much harder to get in, so let’s move on to doing more substantial stuff instead :))

@ivyleaguefan True fax.

I’m also very satisfied with my backup, but I still like hearing news about decisions from these threads (cough I paid a lot in app fees so why not enjoy what remains of the process).

There’s always grad school, too.

Good luck!

I just realized I never sent in my midterm report. I did not know it was required… I got an email a couple days ago saying my decision would be available may 5… but are they going to say my application is incomplete? is this going to seriously hurt my app? I am a current freshman applying for sophomore transfer

@ivyleaguefan Cornell’s school of arts and sciences actually has a lower acceptance rate than Penn’s at around 7%.

@Transfer1011 That may be true but the pool of cornell applicants is definitely much larger. You have a LOT more cc students applying to cornell as compared to Penn.

So in the end Penn is harder to get into because of the more competitive pool of applications.

@tztztz That doesn’t make sense. If Cornell’s pool of applicants is much larger how can you make such a vague statement that Penn’s applicant pool is more competitive? You can’t just discredit CC students as not competitive.

It’s not baseless if it’s common sense, for example: UCLA acceptance rate is 17%, Notredame acceptance rate is 21%. But it is common knowledge that Notredame is harder to get into. Just more unqualified people are accepted into Notredame. And you absolutely cannot say that Cornell is harder to get into than Penn, empirically, that’s just a false statement.

@tztztz Cornell as a whole is easier to get into Penn but when comparing Colleges of Arts and Sciences they are equal if not Cornell being more difficult. 99/1,403 were accepted in Cornell A&S. Community College students rarely if ever get into CAS they usually apply to the other land granted schools that have guaranteed transfer agreements. I don’t think Cornell A&S applicants are substantially less competitive than Penn CAS applicants either.

how does penn view legacy applicants?

@darkrum helpful definitely but not overwhelmingly so. You’ll need strong stats to back it up to get in

Just got wait listed at UVA. Penn please accept me :frowning:

How many people are applying to Wharton on here?

Can somebody chance me?

Stats:
Asian-International Student
College: Foothill College
High School GPA: 2.3x (bleh)
GPA: 4.0
Major: Communication
ECs in High School: Vice President in English Society, President for ORBIS, awards in badminton competition, diploma in Flute, and members in some other clubs
ECs in college: A couple volunteer club, a religious club, regular volunteer etc… not that much

I don’t know, I don’t really get my hopes high, but I just wanna try applying it… is it impossible?

@Sumner from what you have provided, it unfortunately seems very unlikely. Sorry.

@screenjunkie I will be applying for 2016… do you have any tips for me to raise my chance?

@Sumner what are you standardized testing scores (SAT/ACT)? You have to get some really interesting EC’s to offset the poor high school record.

Damn this thread is so dead considering decisions come out tmrw

I agree…what other schools are you guys applying to transfer to, and what’s your reason for Penn?

I’ll go first (just to get some dialogue going before decisions):

I’m a rising sophomore at the University of Alabama. I’ve applied to Yale, Duke, and UNC as well (I’ve been accepted to UNC), and I’m specifically interested in Penn because of the Health and Societies major, along with the interdisciplinary minor of Nutrition. I hope to use the two to either pursue a career in law or health care policy !
