Penn interview thread

So I just recently had my interview and it turned out okay, but it wasn't great. My interviewer was just about the complete opposite of me but I was still able to answer most of the questions and I asked several myself. It only lasted a half hour and was very general. I hope most are about this long and I'd like to hear other interview experiences, so go ahead and share please.

Mine lasted about 45 minutes. My interviewer was young, she’s in grad school right now at the University near me. She and I had a lot in common so we got along well and talked quite a bit. The questions were quite general: Why Penn? Have you visited? etc. We met at a local coffee house so it was informal.

That sounds similar to mine except we had nothing in common and so there wasn’t much we could talk about :/

I submitted my app to Penn for regular decision. I’ve gotten various emails about how to set up my Penn account or what not…but regarding the interview…nobody has contacted me. Should I request for an interview or does Penn send me the alumni information?

If you’re not contacted by an alumni within the next two weeks, I would contact the school and they will get you set up. Some interviewers just like to wait longer.

You’re not guaranteed an interview. It depends on the alumni who are available in your area. If you receive an interview, they will contact you to set it up.

you can contact admissions if you don’t get offered one?

I’m pretty sure you can, but im not positive. He’s right it depends on your area as well. If you’re near a city its very likely there is someone they could arrange for you to meet.

I’m very close to the location listed on the website, but I haven’t been contacted yet. I’m pretty sure everyone is offered an interview if there are alumni nearby to do one?

Does the interview really help though? It is an imperative that I get interviewed? How much weight does it have?

Interviews don’t hold a lot of weight, it’s just an opportunity for the college to get to know you better and perhaps you may have some questions to ask the college. It’s definitely not imperative and it doesn’t really have a large impact on your admissions decision.

I’ve got mine this Sunday, looking forward to it.

in my opinion, interviews barely count for anything. I’m pretty sure my interviewer didn’t like me (when I told her I was an undecided major, she started talking about how her 12-year-old son was a musical genius who performed in concerts every year) but I still got in ED.

Are we suppose to have received an email about how to set up our Penn account? I never did. Anyone else in this situation? But I did have an interview - lasted 45 minutes and we connected very well. But I agree, interviews maybe can only influence your app if they are very very very great - I’d say most interviewers have a pretty standard reporting/write-up system by now.

I had my interview on friday, it lasted about 45 minutes as well. It went well, he was interested in my extracurriculars, what I wanted to study (sociology), how that interest developed and where I wanted to study abroad (Brussels or Geneva). I was kind of taken aback at some of the racial undertones of his statements though, about Penn’s “set demographics” (basically quotas) and how even though he graduated in 1991, he’s “sure there’s black people now” the way he said it was surprising, like -______- really?!. I didnt make it awkward though, but still.

hmm. did any Cali people not receive an interview for upenn yet ): still waiting for the interview. haha (i enjoy having interviews) :P
