Penn Interview

I am probably applying regular decision -- do I still have to go through an interview or what? I am somewhat confused about this entire process of interviews.

interviews aren't required, and you don't really get a choice in the whole process. it's all really random. if they have participating alums in your area, one of them will contact you to set up an interview. only about half of the applicants get interviews, and the adcoms know that, so if you don't have one, it's not necessarily against you. but i think it could never hurt add something more to your app.

Okay, thanks a lot!

i have like... a bunch of alumni in my area, but i never got one... maybe penn has something against me...

yea, i have alums in my area too, and i know alotta people from my school who applied ED to penn already had their interviews...i've kinda lost hope that i'll ever get one...(they hate me, they really hate me!! TT) so i just keep telling myself an interview isn't weighed heavily (as they claim) ><

well chibiajiain (gosh i cant spell your name!)---the fact that you live in cali and the vast amount of students from there applying to penn makes it hard for not only YOU, but you ALUMNI interviewer as well. just think of how many interviews there may be, and how many are applying early in your area. the likely of getting interview is pretty low, and penn will definately notice that if they see you didnt get interviewed.
so don't be worried you didnt get interview. it even says on the application that it is optional, though it may seem great-it only compliments whatever is already stated in the application.

haha, thanx for the reassurance, wombat. and just call me chibi or something lol - i know chibiajiajin is kind of a mouthful ^_^

I live in Hawaii, and I don't think we have a lot of people applying from here, but I still haven't gotten an interview yet. I was so hoping for one too, but ya, I hope it doesn't weigh too much in the process. Let's form a club, chibby, the No-Interview-Club....

haha, spazallan, the NIC. cool, i'm in lol

chibby...hmm, 26e, it seems as if your nickname for me has taken root lol jk, i love seeing all the different nicknames people come up with for me since my username is so weird lol

chibby's ok. i prefery chibsy, though, meself

what does chibiajiajin stand for? Is that your name?

chibiajiajin is japanese for (directly translated, though grammatically incorrect in the japanese language) little asian. chibi = little, small; ajiajin = asian person. which is basically what i am haha (chibi is like when you see those cute anime characters drawn like little people - they're chibis! lol)

lol, if i had a name like that, that'd be pretty interesting lol ^_^

I thought small is chisai

oo, yea...lol, look at my edit above ^_^ that's y i said it was grammatically incorrect. technically it should be chisaihito or chisaiajiajin. chibi's often related w/ anime, or can be used in a derogatory way, like when a senior is talking to a freshman calling them "freshies" (sorta kinda)

At first, I thought your name is Chinese because of jia and jin, but now I got it. Are you Japanese?

no, lol, i'm actually half thai half chinese. i just love anime and many things japanese lol

hmm...should i have said grammatically?? maybe it's more a fault with word choice and phrasing?? hmm..dunno lol

is thai an urm? maybe that could be your hook, lol

i have no idea! lol. i'm still trying to figure out the whole urm thing. that'd be cool though if that was my hook - i didn't think i had one lol

I realized, not too far off in the future, I bet colleges will be requiring DNA tests to verify URM status. How sad!

by that time, someone will have figure out how to manipulate DNA sequences.
