i just got the phone call literally like a minute ago. lol i'm excited! and anxious too.

anyway, anyone here had their interview already? i'm looking for some advice and tips.
how was it like? what kinda questions did they ask? what should i do to be prepared (other than being myself)?

oh and, what should i wear?? more formal than jeans/nice shirt type of thing?

about the clothes thing...
i'm pretty confused myself b/c im getting mixed comments (some say jeans, some say formal wear)...

errhm, to play it safe, show up in something nice i guess (i know, i cant get any more vague)
if you're a guy, clean shirt, khakis
girl, non-revealing top, pants (think "macys career wear" clothes)

I suggest you talking to your guidance counselour about this stuff :)

do they offer interviews for anybody who wants one? how does it work? Should I just call the Penn alum in my area that's posted on Penn website or do I wait?

what kind of questions were u given? what kind of stuff did u talk about? did ur interviewer ask a lot on what u know about Penn, etc?

i know sometimes interviews are taken place in really casual places like starbucks. but then i'm actually goin to lower manhattan, 18th floor in a building...so i guess an office. would it be okay if i wear a nice pair of jeans w/a nice sweater on top? i don't have 'career' type of clothing and also i feel like they'r kinda uptight. i wanna be more like myself on a daily basis...that way i'll be more comfortable.

is anyone or would anyone wear jeans? what about shoes? i definitely don't wanna do the UGG boots and stuff and that's what i have. but i don't wanna wear stilettos either

Look professional.
Black slacks, nice closed-toe shoes, and a nice dress shirt are all you need.

I had mine today and it was very nice and light hearted.
My interviewer at the end said that I could finally get out of my uncomfortable clothes, so I think she implied that I didn't need to dress up so much haha.
The questions are typical and true to yourself.
Eg, Why Penn? Your major? Your hobbies, etc.

Don't over think it and be as genuine as you can because that's most important.

Yeah I had mine yesterday. Don't stress about it, be yourself, etc etc. Its pretty chill. I wore khakis and shirt with a sweater and felt appropriately dressed. Look nice but not obnoxious. I wouldn't recommend a suit, but you should also avoid jeans. Also take advantage, its a good chance to find out stuff about the school. The most valuable question I asked my interviewer was what did he regret most not doing at Penn.

Interview availability depends on where you live.
Obviously if you live in Pennsylvania, California, or Texas, or New England, you'll have to wait as there are more kids applying than there are Alumni haha.
But in places like Montana, Oregon, etc, not many kids apply so even the shortness of Alumni there is fine to deal with all of them.

I think it varies based on the place you live in and the interviewer. i got a call 2 days ago and have my interview tomorrow. i turned my app in on november 1st.

Did you all get your Penn Portal before you got the call for an interview? I turned in my app of Nov 1 so I don't know if they do it chronologically.
Penn calls you for the interview right? You don't have to request anything?

@ deeboggle. I haven't gotten a Penn Portal login yet, but my interview is tomorrow. They probably do the Portal stuff chronologically, but the interviews are when the regional alumni can contact you and when they do. Yes, they will contact you if they're in an area with alumni who interview.

Don't stress about your interview. When they say they don't really have any impact on your admissions, they aren't kidding. But if you are wondering what you should wear, just look clean/presentable, but don't look uncomfortable. Meaning, if wearing a dress shirt and khakis or whatever will make you feel awkward or uncomfortable, then go with clean, unripped jeans and a polo shirt or something. Just don't look sloppy or unclean etc.

But really, the interview doesn't really matter. I'm a freshman at Wharton right now. Including myself, two people from my high school applied ED to Penn (we both applied to Wharton). I didn't get an interview and got accepted ED, she had an interview, got deferred and then rejected. Admittedly, I had stronger scores, grades, outside of class involvement etc., but not everyone that applies gets an interview, so they can't reasonably use it as an admissions criteria. When they say it's really just for you to ask questions, they aren't kidding. That said, if you show up and make them think you're a serial killer, they might say something...

I don't agree with this. I think the interview matters a lot if you are on the fence. If it's primarily for the applicant to ask questions, why would they have alumni who may not have been on campus for years conduct them?
