Penn is the Best school in the world

how many penn students does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
one...but he gets six credits for it ;) hahaha

how many cornell students does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
2...1 to do it and 1 to crack under pressure doing it =P hahaha

yeah
penn is teh best
penn is my bulbasaurian manbearpiglovechild...twice

Waaaaaahh I wanna go to Penn so I can agree with you guys :(

well then good luck, Eloquence! You can do it :)

Penn is probably worse than Cornell, making it the worst in the Ivy. Honestly, Penn undergrad BLOWS, the only thing that boosts its rankings is Wharton and its engineering. 20 years ago, Penn was 40 something on US News. And plus, you'll get shot in philly.

just wondering, what specific field is Penn awesome at? I heard abt Medicine........is that all?

If anything, strawboy, engineering would be bringing us down in the rankings. Thanks for your thoughtful insights though.

I see the world isn't allowed to change in 20 years. I also guess that the fall of the Soviet Union, the rise of Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, and my birth cannot also have positive effects on Penn's ranking. I'm pretty sure my acceptance and decision to attend should allow us to crack USNWR's top 5 this summer.

they have an amazing economics departement, I've also heard that english and history are pretty good as well... in anycase CAS rocks too, so whoever said that only SEAS and wharton are worth it, they don't know that they're talking about. For example I know that CAS economics is one of the most respected econ departments in the US ( sorry about only using econ as an example but I'm gonna be an econ major so thats what I know about most, but I'm 100% sure that the same goes for tons of other departments at Penn).

OH GOOD REBUTTAL. My God. Too bad that says nothing about anything else I said regarding Penn's prestige.

columbia used to be considered on par with harvard, but it doesnt seem to have that kind of prestige now.

I'm honestly not interested in changing your mind (strawboy), but I DO have a huge issue with you talking crap about a school that is great....In anycase I'll just assume that you're a hick and know nothing beyond the realms of harvesting and cow tipping so from now on you'll be ignored.

Columbia used to be on par with HYP. Then NYC became a black hole and Columbia's prestige went down the drain to the point where it was considered at Penn's level. Columbia has been able to gain slightly more ground than Penn in terms of prestige in recent years only because NYC is now considered the place to be while not much has happened in Philly since the late 1700s.

To knitpick over which Ivy is "better" is not worth the time. Cornell is better at Engineering, Physics, and field that Penn doesn't offer. Penn is better at econ, business, medicine, law, nursing, and a bunch of other stuff that eludes me at this time.

The average student at Penn is stronger academically than the average student at Cornell. Also, Cornell is filled with students rejected by every single other Ivy while Penn is able to win a little less than 50% of cross admit fights with Dartmouth and Columbia, while just blowing Cornell out of the water. Wharton may be the best school at Penn, but Cornell also has some things over the rest of the Ivies. It's engineering school can only be matched by Princeton's, but is much easier to get into. It is also the only Ivy with ILR (cross admits get into HYP), Agriculture, Hotel Management, and Human Ecology (latter 3 tend not to have cross admits with other Ivies).

To say that Penn is barely a top 50 school and that the only positive about it is Wharton means that you have a view that has been outdated for a few decades. If everything was like it was back in the 80s, I think Duke would be ranked pretty low, Indiana would be in the top 20, and WashU wouldn't even register. Times change. If your view of the world doesn't you're just like Bush.

Hahah, venkat, I love what you snuck in at the end.

US News only ranked schools that placed 1st-25th until 1990, so for Penn to place 40th in a list that only went to 25 would have been an impressive feat indeed.

(|) <--this is a diagram of an ass, out of which stawman is clearly speaking

besides, the 22,000+ applicants to penn didnt seem to think it is a crap school, other wise they wouldnt have applied. strawboy probably applied to penn, maybe didnt even get in so he is upset

THe Fiske Guide to College Says:

"Penn has one thing other Ivies don't: school spirit."

Haha, I take this thread as proof. OP, I think your spurt of spirit just made me want to go here :)

Hurrah for the red and the bluuuuue

Just a question : Why is there a lot of school spirit at Penn compared to other schools?

The rest of the Ivies have 0 school spirit. Harvard kids are just there for the name. Columbia kids are more interested in NYC than anything that goes on on campus. Cornell kids are too worked up about their grades. Dartmouth kids are too drunk to know whats going on. Yale kids get shot when leaving their dorms. Princeton kids are too full of themselves and more concerned with trust funds than sporting events.

Once again, our competition is moot at best, so while we have the most school spirit in the Ivy League, it pales in comparison to Notre Dame.
