The Jerome fisher program at Penn is absolutely amazing and is a perfect fit. However, what bothers me about Penn is its apparent pre-professional atmosphere (would like to talk about intellectual stuff or something other than jobs for once too)
Note: this is assumption is just based on what I’ve read online
At the same time, I like Stanford for its location and reputation, brown for the open curriculum and a chill community, and Columbia for new york city (small towns with nothing to do like Ann Arbor suck for me)
It would be great if you could help me choose between these four institutions
Are you selecting a college for Early Decision or Single-Choice Early Action for next year? If not, it’s probably best to apply to all four and decide between whichever colleges admit you.
Most likely they will choose for you. Columbia and Brown are so different except for being in the same sports league. Out of the 5 places mentioned, Ann Arbor is the best place by far to be a college student ( unless you have enough money to pay for you and your friends) IMO. I think you need to go back and do some basic research.
I’m having a hard time choosing between M&T and Stanford too! Brown is on my list as well for the same reasons, but Columbia is not because the curriculum is too restrictive for me and as someone who’s interested in business, I know I would be better off studying at one of the other three.
I also live in NYC and have taken classes at Columbia, and while the campus is very nice, I would like to have the “college feel” more than the “city feel” during my next 4 years (though NYC is so amazing, you should definitely live there at some point in your life. maybe study abroad?). Also, now that COVID hit, it’s worth noting that NYC is not the same.
I’m considering Georgetown instead of Columbia because it’s also a city, and its location in DC will provide me with the same reason I love NYC so much - there are always people with different viewpoints advocating for their beliefs, so you get exposure to so much just from the people that live there.
If you want to talk about it more I’d love to, I’m not sure if you can DM people on here but if anything reply and I can send you my info!
