Whoever keeps saying 66% of cross admits go to Penn over Duke, stop. You’re citing an old, outdated, and thus meaningless survey. The two are equals in just about everything. If you say otherwise, you’re either: closeminded, ignorant, or just plain biased. I chose Duke because it’s a better fit for me, plain and simple.

Feel free to call me stupid personally. None of this “whoever” nonsense.

To say that the study is outdated is absolutely correct: if anything, Penn now garners far more than that original data suggested, given its sustained rank in the past 5 years (it was even #4 in 2006).

It’s tied for 6 now and Duke is tied for 8. No difference.

You made the choice - now come to terms with it. There’s no reason to write on this board anymore. It smacks of insecurity.

I’m fine with my choice. I’m just bothered by the fact that you think Penn is leagues above Duke when it isn’t at all. They’re essentially the same. Why do you think I was having such a tough time choosing hmm?

Wow did I really just read that? I usually don’t post much but this is just unfortunate. Are you actually telling glasstiger that he chose to go to an inferior school? This kid just got into two amazing schools, and instead of congratulating him on making a good choice (because both schools are absolutely incredible), you feel the need to one-up the reputation of Penn and in the process bring down this kid’s decision.

That was low, man. I don’t care if you go to Harvard or Princeton or whatever; there is no need to tell someone: “Face it, the school you go to is inferior to the one I go to”

In fact, I don’t see kids at Harvard telling Duke kids that their school is better. Hmm, maybe there’s a reason for that

chill peeps. they are both good schools and he wanted help and y’all gave it and he made his decision. No reason to make it a “whose school is better” contest. It is all personal preference – If I didn’t get into M&T I was going to attend Ohio State. Just because it would be a better fit otherwise. I think he was respectful for the most part and we should just let this thread die as a sign of mutual respect.

the original poster has made a decision

and therefore discussion on this topic in this thread can cease, seeing as the original poster no longer needs assistance.

Dang, if all people at UPenn are this pretentious and ignorant then I really am even more glad I chose Duke.

Comeon! Duke is the number 6 school in sending kids to top law and med schools, has had a president, about 20 senators, 50 congressman, and numerous Nobel Prize winners, and you guys can only slam it more and more?

I mean, really. This is so annoying. I have remained completely respectful of people going to Penn, but this is ridiculous.

I chose Duke over Cornell because I thought Duke’s programs were better (which, for political science, they are). Stop acting in such a terrible manner and just come to terms with yourselves.

Okay, time to head back to the Duke boards :).

Can we let this thread die already?

Duke is as good as Penn.

. . . and Dartmouth. :)

I never said that Duke was a no name school. I acknowledged it as a highly reputable academic institution. I will just not concede to the notion that Duke and Penn are peers.

USNWR disagrees.

USNWR does agree, however, that, though they are close, Penn is very slightly better than Duke. Don’t try to justify your decision by saying they are the exact same, for you would be lying, Penn has a very slight edge over Duke. Justify your decision by saying that Duke was a better fit for you, and that the slight edge Penn gives is nearly nothing in the long run, especially if you go to grad school. So let’s just let this thread die, please. It’s bringing up nothing but animosity.

One thing IS certain: Duke is better than Dartmouth and Brown.

and Cornell! But Cornell Dartmouth and Brown are still great schools that take way to much crap from all the other ivies/Duke Stanford MIT

I’m not saying they’re EXACTLY the same. I’m saying they’re essentially the same. The difference is neglible/insignificant. Again, like you said, the difference isn’t important enough to choose one school over another.

everyone really needs to get over rankings. they shouldnt be the most important factor when choosing a school. and like the posts above yes, it gets to a point where the differences between schools are negligible. at this level you should choose a school based on fit.

I personally know at least five people in the state of Michigan who chose UMich over Penn, so to suggest that NO ONE turns down Penn is a giant exaggeration lovemom. The vast majority of the country aren’t even aware of the schools that make up the Ivy League.

I chose Duke over several top Ivies with no strings attached and have never regretted my decision.

I got to be part of the most intense sports rivalry in college athletics, experience warm weather year-round, have a good social life that revolved around the campus, take classes in a top 5 Political Science department, read novels on the large expanse of grass in the gardens, study abroad in Europe, gain access to a major advisor who was also head of his department, do HIV/AIDS research in Africa as a result of a fully-funded grant from the university, intern at a top investment bank and gain full-time employment at a top consulting firm in this weak economy.

…and I’m just a regular Duke student. To say Duke is not as desirable as the bottom-feeder Ivies like Penn and Cornell makes a mockery of the fantastic undergraduate education and experience that Duke offers.

After HYP, Duke belongs in the next group of top schools like Dartmouth, MIT, Stanford, Brown, Columbia and Caltech.
