DS and I flew into State College last night. The flight was full with 5 people on standby, many sporting Penn State stuff (hats, tshirts, backpacks, etc). As we prepared to land, we could see the Blue Band rookies marching on the practice field as part of their audition. Driving through the campus there were students all around, moving into dorms, walking around, or heading downtown. The apartments buildings near campus had lots of activity with students beginning to move in. The downtown area right by campus has tons of signs, welcoming back students and in support of the university. And the restaurants, while not yet busy, were happy to see business beginning to pick up.

Glad to be back up here. Had forgotten how pretty it is - the general area and the campus. Oh - and coming from New Orleans - the temps were quite nice too!

My son and I are leaving for State College in about an hour. Looking forward to helping him move in, walk around campus and getting him set for a great year!!

Sounds like the parents should get together for a beer!!! :)

Sounds good to me.
We are leaving tomorrow (Thurs).

Love it! A get-together of CC Penn State parents!

Darn, I would have joined you!

We just got home from dropping our daughter off. Had a nice lunch at the Waffle Shop, with my first college roommate (and maid of honor). We met 35 years ago almost to the day.

Our daughter is excited to be back. State College and the campus are bustling.

We have another trip to make tomorrow – ahh, the joys of being local! Grccx, you’ll have to let us know how the Blue Band tryout goes! Fingers crossed!

Greenbutton - fortunately, the audition is just a formality at this point - but still a requirement. This is his 3rd year with the BB and he has done drum corps all summer, so his playing is in pretty top form. He just has to switch gears from mellophone to trumpet and from drum corps marching to the Big 10 marching style. :)

But I will be around tomorrow for anyone else who is here. I don’t fly out till Friday morning.

Ahh…somehow I thought he was a sophomore! At least this year it isn’t a million degrees with a sandpit for a practice field :)

Make sure you stop at Ndulge cupcakes downtown (near Dunkin Donuts) because their stuff is sooo good. My son was encouraged at all the early arrivals; he is enjoying the early-bird special of being settled and helping other people unload.

I am really happy about the excitement I am feeling from current students.

I’m here until Friday. Sounds fun!

If you haven’t already signed up for this extremely cool multi-media newsletter, I highly recommend it! There’s one for your student, too. There’s a little video each week and I have been surprised how helpful and practical they are. This week’s theme is manage the chaos, but overall the newsletter is broken into three parts: Explore, Connect, and Recharge. Good stuff!

That’s great. Thanks greenbutton

Thanks, Greenbutton. That looks like a great newsletter. I just sent my D a note about it also. Keep the good advice and info coming.
