Hello! I am an international student currently admitted to Penn State at University Park.
My admission offer is for summer 2013. I have a few question about my offer.
Is it good to begin penn state life at summer?
What courses do I need to take during the six-week summer session? (I am admitted to the eberly college of science)
Is there anyone who also begin his/her penn state life in summer here?

I want to hear more opinions and advice! Thank you:)

If I could afford it, I would totally do summer. But its a great way to start off at PSU, you take only a few classes, and you have lots of free time to enjoy the area - which is rather nice in the summer. Lots of people start over the summer too so it’s not like only a few people. I got no help for you on courses though, not in my realm.

Thank you for your help!
I just felt a little bit strange when I received my decision.
Does it mean that there is no difference between me and other admitted freshmen
besides when we start our college life at penn state u park?

The biggest difference is that you pay $7000 more than others that start in fall. Other than that there are no differences. You get done with 2 general eds which give 6 credits.

thank you for your reply. Is there any additional requirements for students who are admitted for summer to continue at University Park to earn their degrees?

Thank you

Hey
I am an International student too and got into the summer semester.
I was really confused with the offer, I was thinking it would be stressful because I’d be new to the place and the work load would be more than the fall or spring semesters.
But even if I want to attend the Summer semester, the cost is what stops me.
The fee for fall and spring itself is high. and over that another 10,000 would be too much.

I tried asking the admissions committee, they never gave me a proper response.
Is the Summer admission an optional one ? Or it it mandatory for me to attend if I accept ?
I am really looking forward to studying at PSU - UP
If it is a must, can I get my Admission Semester term to Fall(2013) ?

And, If I consider the 2+2 offer, which campus would be best to chose if I consider, Academics and Social atmosphere ?

I know there are too many questions, but answering one or two would help a lot.

Thank you :D

Generally speaking, if you were admitted to UP with a summer admit, it means you are a strong enough candidate to be admitted to UP but not quite as strong as the Fall admits. After you complete your first semester, there will be no difference between you and all the other freshmen in terms of status, just that you will be a few credits ahead and already familiar with campus. It’s a beautiful time to start at UP because the campus is less crowded and more laid back and therefore maybe easier to adjust to, and it’s beautiful. You may have a different housing assignment during the summer than during the rest of the academic year because only a portion of the dorms are open during summer. You may encounter some high school students who are on campus for summer athletic camps or academic programs, but not enough to be an annoyance. There are some nice events during the summer, like Arts Fest. I can’t imagine doing a 2+2 if you were admitted to main campus (unless to save money/stay close to home if you’re not emotionally ready to move away), it’s an amazing atmosphere and the campus PSU students aspire to. Good luck!

No, its not optional. When you applied, you hit that if they weren’t able to offer you direct admission into the fall semester, they’d consider you to start earlier and then flow into fall with everyone else. Unless you’ve got higher test scores to show, or something amazing happened to you from the time you got accepted to now, it’s unlikely that they’ll move you into fall just because.

Do the 2+2 if you cannot afford the expensive summer season. It much more than 7k for out of state residents.

Pennsylvania Residents: $648 per credit
Nonresidents: $1,161 per credit

Choose either Penn State Erie “The Behrend College” or Penn State Altoona. Others are like high schools.
