So I was recently just admitted to an alternate campus for Penn State, yet I was wondering if there were any circumstances in which I would be able to attend University Park? My GPA and Scores were both above the average for the university which also stunned me as well.
you can ask to be reconsidered for the divison of undergraduate studies and to start summer 2016 instead of fall 2016, if you do that they will give you a response 2 weeks later however if you get accepted you would have to attend the summer semester. Can i ask what your stats were?
I had about a 3.8 W GPA and then 1870 (one sitting) 1940 (superscore)
@OmidTheMan ask to be considered for DUS summer if your willing to do the summer semester and you will be accepted most likely. those are pretty good stats (better than mine and i was accepted).
What major?

I can see through other threads that you applied to Smeal - Smeal is one of the most competitive colleges at PSU. The ‘averages’ you see are across all majors. They are much higher for Smeal and Engineering as well as a few other highly competitive areas. PSU does not take superscored SAT’s, so your GPA and SAT are probably just average if not a little below for Smeal students.
If you can ask for reconsideration for DUS, you should get in (if they agree to reconsider - they don’t always). Adding summer as an option is the best shot - but probably not necessary in your case as your stats for general University admission are pretty good. Smeal is just super competitive.
As a DUS major, you can still take every class you need to get into Smeal junior year (which is when everyone gets into their major - whether they are accepted “pre major” as a freshman or not. There is no downside to being in DUS as someone intending to major in Smeal.
My niece went to Altoona and loved it. it is virtually impossible to get into Smeal. Sometimes you just dont know why you didnt get accepted. If you really want PSU I would talk to them, like other people on here have said. i went the summer after my Freshman year and loved it. Graduated in 1987. I dont know why guidance counselors dont encourage everyone to accept that as an option. State College in the summer is awesome. Good Luck and Congrats! Go State.
