My biggest worry is that I am out of state will that affect me alot? Also I know PSU puts alot of important into gpa and mine unweighted isnt that strong. I love architecture and cant imagine doing anything else I have sat in on numerous meetings with an architect and I take a drafting class this year and it is great so far. I never did make a portfolio in High school because I never had time in my schedule to fit art classes. This narrows my options for college down to a select few. Penn state is my dream school and want to get into the program so bad but I hear they only have 70 kids per class. Doesnt that mean they only accept 140 applicants? Does anyone know how many students apply to architecture? If anyone could give me any information on the acceptance rate and whether I have a chance I would much appreciate it.

My son applied to Penn St two years ago and got accepted. Is your unweighted out of 4? My son’s unweighted was 3.93 out of 4 and his ACT was 31. At that time, the acceptance rate was about 10% (1200 applicants and 120 accepted). We are OOS. Penn St was his second choice but he did not get any university financial aid (only government loans).

I’m not sure how much assurance I can give you on admissions to the PSU Arch program, but it’s certainly worth trying for. I hope that if you are at all interested that you have already applied or are very close to having a complete application. You MUST have a complete application in by Nov 30th to be considered at all. Being out of state is no disadvantage for admissions to the arch program (or to any program at PSU, as far as I can tell). This year’s (fall 2010 admssions) group of admittees to Arch come from all over the USA and from several foreign countries as well. I do not know the actual breakdown of the class, but 83 kids matriculated - PSU overshot a bit in their acceptances, since they do want a class of 65. (At this point about 15 kids have already dropped out of the program, so…)
