Hey everyone,
I am deciding between a few colleges currently, and have a question about Penn State School of Theatre. According to their website, they will offer a BFA in Acting from the fall of 2016. Is Penn State School of Theatre reputable? Will it be more beneficial for me to pursue a BFA in Acting at another college?
Thank you!
Hey @nima0041 I am going to be a student at the School of Theatre this fall (majoring in BFA Design/Tech) Penn State has a very reputable theatre program with numerous alumni on Broadway and touring, outstanding facilities, and extraordinary professors! Please feel free to message me if you would like to take this discussion further. Of course, there are other wonderful programs out there, but you may want to look under the Theatre/Drama Majors forum. Posting this question under the Theatre/Drama Majors forum will also help!
During the 2015-2016 school year Penn State (University Park) offered a B.F.A. in Acting for the very first time. Admission is by audition only. As of 5-17-2016, there are 11 students in the Class of 2020 who will enter as freshmen in August 2016, the second year of the program. Since this new program is not yet widely known, for the time being there are far fewer applicants for this program than for the corresponding Musical Theater B.F.A. program, which has been well established as a leading MT program for years. The lead acting professor for the Acting B.F.A. is also one of the faculty members for the M.T. BFA. Check out the Theatre Dept. pages and the college catalog for more information.
I’m not sure about their acting program in comparison to others. All I know is that Ty Burrell(guy from modern family) got his mfa from Penn state.
