How great is the biology program in penn state (university park), as in a biology major? (teachers, challenging courses, etc.) I hopefully want to do premed. Are there a lot of research opportunites on/off campus? (hospitals, labs, etc.)

Also, how much do they usually give for scholarships?

Biology program is very good. Classes are interesting yet challenging and prepare you well for grad/med school or industry work.

The College of Science really pushes undergrad research. You can easily get into a lab freshmen year, but you have to take the initiative to contact and meet with professors whose work interests you. I started work in a lab freshmen year and will have a publication out this year (junior) based off my thesis research.

The bio dept and the Eberly College of Science has a lot of $$ to give out, but most is reserved for juniors and seniors who have entered the major.

Thanks for the reply
