Hi I was wondering if some people can chance me on attending psu. It’s my number one and I applied right before Christmas and I won’t hear back till the end of February. It literally keeps me up at night lol!!! I’m a senior in nj with a 3.7 gpa and around a 1500 on my sat. I wrote a perfect essay and have a lot of EC’s. I’ve read a lot of people getting in with low gpa’s but not so much low SAT’s. I’d hate to have a summer option bc it’s not something I’d want to do.
hate to break it to you, if you applied after november 30th and don’t wanna do summer, you probably won’t get in. I think the SAT will bring you down, what do you mean by “around 1500” what was your exact score? If the 3.7 is weighted you will most definitely have to do summer. Fall is pretty competitive regular decision.
It was a 1480 and would they look at my essay and EC’s if the gpa and SATs were weak?

I mean my gpa is in range so I guess it’s dependent on my SAT’s and everything else no?
Your going to have to go summer to even have a chance and you will have to apply DUS. Honestly to me the SAT score is a deal breaker. The admissions person might think your classes are incredibly easy once he sees that you got a 1480 on the SAT with a 3.7 GPA. The SAT score is really going to bring you down and I honestly don’t think the gpa is high enough to save that low of a SAT score. You will most likely get a branch campus. Not trying to sound mean but it’s what i think with my past experience.
What’s DUS?
Division of Undergraduate Studies, aka undecided majors.
I applied for nutritional studies do you think it would make a difference if I wanted to maybe email and tell them that I wanted to go in undecided?
It probably wouldn’t matter because nutrition isn’t a controlled or highly competitive major at PSU. I think the DUS situation works when someone was applying to Engineering or Smeal initially because they are so much more competitive.
With a 1480 you will most likely be oferred a branch, especially because you applied after priority. As space fills, it becomes even more competitive.
Summer may also be an option, but it is unlikely you will get in fall 2016…but, weirder things have been known to happen. Sometimes there are decisions that do not make sense.
Wait are you saying you got a 1480 on the 1600 scale or on the 2400 scale?
Yea I’ve heard of people such as myself getting in but I guess I’ll just have to wait and see and pray :|. And it’s a 1480 on the 2400 scale :/. I mean I took a college course and just got an A in it and I’m going to send that transcript to them but I doubt it’ll make a difference.
@bohemiamchic I think you really hurt your chances by not applying by the November 30th deadline. Good luck!
