Leap is a program during the summer session. If your son starts fall, he won’t be able to participate in it - but my daughter was accepted fall for this past year and chose to change her start to summer in order to participate.

Leap is the Learning Edge Academic Program. Basically, students choose a “pride” (grouping of classes based on interest) and complete 6 credits over the summer. Usually students take a gen ed class plus a pride specific class. The benefits of this are that the students take the same two classes with the same people so they get to know people over the summer, it’s an easier jump into college during a more laid back semester and there is a lot of mentoring that occurs.

My kids all did LEAP, even the ones that were accepted for Fall, because they realized the benefits of such a program. Not one of my kids regretted going in the summer.

It is an additional cost with room/board/tuition, so it’s not feasible for all, but if it is, it’s a great program and they come out with 6 credits already completed.

son was also accepted this morning to the 2 +2 Altoona branch program. No summer start was selected either. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to spend his summer there
and there was not going to be a summer on line option.

Would your son consider the 2+2? Not 100% sure mine wants to spend his summer there as well, but he asked for it to be considered.

Undecided

My daughter just got an email saying “We have yet to receive your application for Millennium Scholars.” Is everyone getting this email? Just wondering if she should complete the application or not.

My son is thinking about sending an email about summer start too. We originally did not do it since we had a vacation planned for his graduation. Let me know if you hear anything back to see if it is worth sending an email and rescheduling our trip. My son does not want to do 2 + 2.

My son also received this email.

Applied EA, DUS, UP Summer. This morning got admitted to 2+2 Hurrisburg Fall. I guess this is final decision. Penn State UP is top option, now have to wait for second option admission
will have a tour to Hurrisburg, is it nice?

did he submit scores?

Yes this would be a final decision as he was already evaluated for summer start and denied. Are you in state or out of state? Harrisburg is one of the few “true college” like commonwealth campuses of Penn State with a campus, dorms, etc
But it is pretty small. It’s a very pretty campus - not a lot right around it.

I’m not sure I’d go to any commonwealth campus from out of state as I’m sure there are better options, but if I were to, Altoona, Harrisburg and Behrend would be the only campuses at which I’d do so.

Just know if he asks for consideration for summer and chooses not to take it, the only option on the table at that point is the 2+2 originally offered. We’ve seen students here try to “back door” their way in through getting in for summer then appealing for fall. It doesn’t work. Summer start admission means you must start in the summer if you want to go to UP campus.

Absolutely understand that, it’s either summer or 2+2.

Yes, but all average range, we were hoping for the best.
