In my penn state it said I still need to provide parent earnings. When I send the parent earnings, will it change my financial aid award because penn state is unaffordable for my family right now
Are you instate to be able to qualify for a PA state grant?
What was your EFC on the FAFSA? For Pell grant you would need to have very low EFC.
Other than federal or state grants if you qualify and federal loans ($5500) Penn State will not give you much other aid.
It is a public school. If you didn’t get a scholarship or federal or state aid then you can’t expect much of any aid from them.
My efc was 5100 and i am out of state.
Ok on your SAR student aid report from FAFSA it should say how much Pell you can get. I think maximum Pell is $5900 for $0 EFC so you can probably only get about $800 or so.
Penn State is going to cost over $40k for tuition, fees, room and board
Other than the $800 Pell and the $5500 loan there will be no other aid, other than a few thousand of work study possibly. Can your family come up with over $30k a year for Penn State?
What does your financial aid award say?
If your parents’ actual tax return income was lower than estimated when you filed FAFSA you might get a bit more Pell but that is not going to change your situation much.
Time is getting short, decision day is coming up. Did you link your parent tax return to the FAFSA? Did it change your EFC?
Nothing you submit will make Penn State affordable for you.
State-subsidized universities generally do not provide need-based financial assistance to out-of-state students. Either you pay the full cost or you find another school. Since the full cost at Penn State is way outside your family’s budget, you need to set your sights elsewhere.
What are your other options?

Penn state gave me $10000 in fin aid out of the $49000 cost of attendance. I still need to pay $38000 each year. Where can i get this mknry from. My parents only jave about $3000 saved up."
@kaleab56 this is what you posted earlier. I agree with @dodgersmom. Please don’t let the other option(s) you have slip away while you work on Penn State. Work on affordable options instead. May 1 is looming.
^This is not going to work out. You will need to look at your affordable options, what are they?
I already accepted Penn State. Can I unaccept?
^ Yes. Call them and ask how.
Why did you accept if you don’t have a way to pay for it?
Yes, you can “unaccept,” but don’t be surprised if you forfeit any deposits that you may have paid. If you have other options that you can afford, make sure you accept one of those and get any required deposit in before the deadline.
Please tell us what your other options are . . . we want to help you find a school that’s affordable for you!
UMBC, towson, salisbury, RIT(which is also pricey but not as much as penn state)

Are you the poster who wants to study computer engineering at UMD CP but wasn’t accepted? Why not start at a community college and get a really good GPA and then transfer there?
^see MTAP path in above link.

^Engineering agreements
Umbc is excellent for science. Is it affordable?
yes its affordable
Congratulations, it’s an EXCELLENT choice for CS.
Otherwise, you can attend Montgomery College (very good CC) and transfer to UMD CP hoping to get into CS. But why risk it, when you got into a really good STEM school with UMBC?
If UMBC is affordable for your family, it is a great option. Please let us know what you decided to do.
I have decided to go to umbc
Congratulations, @kaleab56! Best of luck to you.
