Thanks for responding @adlgel and @simple0920 and Congrats to your students!

@onthesearch814 Thanks for that info! I don’t believe I applied to schreyer, and I do like Penn State, so I’ll definitely be on the lookout for those scholarships. Did your daughter get an email for the scholarship she won or did she have to log into her penn state account to see?

didnt realize how many parents are on here. Based off what you guys say I’d have thought you were a student like me…

Also I probably cant afford to go here rip

D is OOS. Just received our financial aid offer. Loans only, so unless she gets scholarship through Schreyer, Penn state doesn’t make sense for her. Would cost several thousand more per year than UVA, Boston College, Clemson or Pitt. She’s fortunate to have choices but didn’t expect Penn State to be among the more expensive on her list.

My twins got their financial aid tonight. I should say they went online when I asked so it may have been there previously. About $7,000 each, OOS, top students so it is no longer a possibility. I joked tonight WE ARE - not coming (not to them). Nice school, great tour when we went, school spirit but they have other options and state school was generous.

Are scholarships only reflected in a letter (no email and nothing but loans/work study on the portal for my daughter).

@WolverineDream the Fin Aid section of LionPath shows my daughter’s loan and merit award.

@wolverinedream: scholarships are usually included with the financial aid package.

Thank you!

My son received his financial aid package today, hearting breaking even with the Provost Award, we are not going to be able to send him there.

Penn State is among the top 2 most expensive public universities in the country, with Pitt being #1. Penn State tells you right on their website that they give very little aid. 60% of their aid in is in loans and only 6700 freshman across all campuses get a scholarship and the average scholarship is $1500-$3000. Schreyers might be 5k if you get in, Provost a little more, a college scholarship a little more -but it’s unlikely to get all of those and unlikely to make much of a dent in the costs of Penn State, especially if OOS. Most people pay for Penn State by student loans, parent loans and savings. https://admissions.psu.edu/costs-aid/student-aid/

People are surprised by this every year…

Where do they list the parent plus loans? All the other schools she has gotten into (and the other state college my older D attends) have them listed as part of the financial aid package.

Nevermind! I figured it out. Crazy that they don’t have an automatic link to it.

I still can’t believe people take out loans to go to college. That’s like half your life just trying to pay off your college loans

@UndyingFlame the standard loan term is 10 years. I certainly hope that’s not half of anyone’s life!

Hey, even though financial aid is scarce, where can I check my aid package?

@amazedapricot: go to your LionPath portal to view your award.
