Penn State, Indiana University, or University of Alabama for Athletic Training Major?

Hi,
Considering all three schools for Athletic Training major what school would provide the best program which I can utilize in a future career path??

I’d recommend Penn state or IU.

@LBad96 What is your experience with these athletic training programs? Can you elaborate on why you recommend the ones that you do?

I have no firsthand experience with any of the three but if all are affordable, I have heard the best things about Penn states program.

No firsthand experience, but Penn State and IU are definitely better schools than Alabama, all else equal.

^ define “better” schools - especially with no firsthand experience. Just curious. As they are all large state schools adn they all have extremely high stats for top students/honors colleges. I guess i would ask OP if he/she has a geographic preference and also about any financial constraints. Otherwise, all are great choices.

For this major, the academic quality of the undergrad does not matter much. Pick which one is the least expensive and would be the most fun.

Yes the academic quality counts because you want to pass your BOC exam to be certified to practice . You should also be looking into how competitive admission is to each program, and if maybe a direct entry school would be better if AT is definitely what you want . Also see how and when each school is transitioning into the soon to be required masters degree.

@LBad96 please define “better.”

@LBad96 thinks the south is racist therefore hates Alabama.

As far as Athletic Training, few if any other schools would be able to match what Bama has for this particular area. Alabama has a mega budget for all things athletic.

What is your goal? To become a PT? To become a coach?

Have you visited Alabama?

What is your budget? How much will your family pay? Did you qualify for any merit from Bama? What are your stats?

You’ve spent a lot of time looking at some very expensive OOS publics.

What are your parents saying about how much they’ll spend each year on college? If they’ll pay $50k per year, then super. If not, then most of these schools will not work.

You have decent stats, but not high enough for merit at any of these schools.

What is your home state?

Um. Wut. I go to school in the Southeast lol

@mom2collegekids My goal is to become a PT, and I can afford most of the college on my own because of a online clothing business I run, along with some help from parents. I am from New Jersey and will be touring Bama in February. Really intrigued by them because I would be working in world class athletic facilities for my major. So really for me it is down to those 3 schools

Make sure when you visit these schools you ask how competitive the admission to the AT program is - Alabama admits 20. How many apply? What is your back-up major if you’re not admitted ?

20 people in the whole country?? @taskmstrx

I’d go with Bama (depending on conditions to access major), then PSU, then Indiana.

The program is competitive and according to the linked page admits an average of 25 per year.

^^ yes - for Alabama . Most schools have a competitive admission into the AT program and most don’t take a lot of students each year.
