Does anyone know how Penn State gives their notifications? Would the notification be online first and then a letter in the mail or could you get a letter first? Also, is it the same process for admissions, deferrals and denied admissions? Thanks.

I would assume that your first notification is online, since the website is supposed to be updated daily. Then I guess a formal letter would follow.

But we wouldn’t know…as we’re still waiting… :(

My daughter got her snail mail acceptance letter on the same day that the website showed that she had been accepted. Since we had been checking online each day, I found this synchronous notification interesting. By the way, we are in PA if that makes a difference.
There was no e-mail notification.

There are no deferrals at Penn State though they have begun using a waitlist to better control enrollment numbers. I have not heard of any student being denied admission; instead they are offered enrollment at a branch campus.

Thank you all - this was very helpful. Still waiting…

I actually received my letter of acceptance in the mail a day before it was updated on the website.

Has anyone who applied for summer as first choice been notified?

I applied directly for summer semester and have yet to hear back yet. I sent in my application in the beginning of october, although from what i’ve gathered, it doesn’t make much of a difference. I am expecting it will take a little while though, because I am on the borderline as far as my stats go

I don’t think people really heard about summer sesh last year until the end of January…

From what I’ve been told - there is no “first come, first served” system.

I applied for summer first choice and got in starting in the summer. I don’t really know how much more of a chance it gave me then if I would have just applied for the fall semester.

shogunzek-was this for Summer 2010?

my daughter received her acceptance my mail on nov 27th. not sure if she received an e-mail.

My son’s notification was on the website on Friday morning. Haven’t gotten anything in the mail yet.

I just checked the website for my DS right now and I was accepted to Penn State (university Park location). Yeah!! It is his first acceptance so a big relief to him and his parents. DS has received no email or letter, only through checking his status on their website. DS applied at the beginning of October. He is OOS.
