E-mail from Penn State about application? Anyone else?

So we thought that the only notifications about anything were done via MyPennState and mail. But today, my daughter received an e mail letting her know that her application was complete and that it was in review. Now, her status on MyPennState has read that it is "in review and a decision will be posted when one is made" since September 8th. So, I am wondering if this happens when it goes into a second level of review? Or was it random? Has anyone else gotten an e mail?

The e mail also goes on to say "Penn State’s review of applications does not occur in the order they were received. Although some admission decisions are shared earlier, the vast majority of decisions will be released in late January. You will receive notification of the decision both in your MyPennState profile and in the mail." And it goes on to guarantee her an admissions decision prior to January 31st since she applied by November 30th. (which we knew already, of course).

I was just surprised she received an e mail and I'm wondering if others have gotten this, and if so, did it indicate an imminent change in status or was it simply a random thing?

Thoughts?

Yup, son just received an email this morning with same wording. Kind of surprised we haven’t heard anything yet he applied Sept 24th and is an above accepted average student. Sat scores 2100 4.0 gpa with many honors and AP classes along with athletics and student council applied Smeal business. My daughter who is a senior with lower grades heard within 2 weeks. Needless to say he was a bit discouraged if he has to wait until January.

@mamahills so did your daughter get an e mail also saying her application was complete prior to her receiving her decision?

My D applied Sept 2nd and her application was complete and “in review” as of September 8th. We now know that doesn’t really matter. She is borderline for GPA middle 50% and upper end for ACT middle 50%, so we expected to wait a little while. But it’s very difficult to see kids who applied nearly two months AFTER her already receive their decisions. It’s just stressful. I’ll be glad when January is over and we at least KNOW something…

My daughter received the email this morning as well. She applied on Sept. 14th, and has had the “We are reviewing your credentials. A decision will be available here as soon as one is made.” since about a week after that. I really hope receiving that email means that they are finally looking at her transcripts, but I have a feeling it was probably a glitch, and that email was probably meant to be sent out in Sept.

@jihpsu sorry should have clarified D is a senior at PSU now and gotta admit it’s been 3 years since my daughters acceptance. My son’s status has been “your credentials are complete and a decision will be posted here….” since early Oct. Maybe it’s just that there are so many applications coming in early that they are being addressed randomly and that the latest we will hear is Jan 31st. It’s such a crap shoot this admissions process I don’t take anything for granted anymore and don’t even think with his credentials that it’s a guarantee he’s part of the small majority that hears first. But we’re not discouraged so we will keep checking the account daily in the hopes that the decision will come sooner. Good luck to your D will post on here if anything changes.

My child received an email as well. Application was completed with all docs in mid-September and has had the same “your credentials” post since then. We are OOS, full IB candidate, GPA 3.9, ACT 31. Thought if we applied early, we would hear early. Thought that was the point of rolling admission…our mistake! Good luck to all.

Received same email… Ugh, this is so stressful! We applied Sept 22. No change in status yet… Still says “…when one is made”. I also thought we’d hear by now… Oh well, can’t get upset… Need to be patient.

Hmmm…weird.
well, I guess all we can do is wait! We just passed two months with the same status…I guess we only have at most two and a half more months to wait! Ugh!

I received this status today as well! My application was finished late September, but my friend who has the same credentials as I already got accepted a week ago!

@aquablue0128‌ I have learned this week that applications are considered in random order. It has nothing to do with application date. They said in the chat that you should not worry if others you know have been accepted…it does not mean anything bad for your application.
Did you get the email? Or did your MyPennState status change to that today? Our status has been the “reviewing credentials” status for months…but just got that email today.

Yes. Got it today. Application package was complete on Oct 23. I’m not worried because other kids got acceptances already, I’m worried because they got a different message than the “currently under review” one. Stressful.

I got the same e-mail today as well

@Leyland‌ what was their status? I’ve only seen different variations of the same message prior to the “coming days” status. When “coming days” comes out then decisions are imminent. But the “we are reviewing your credentials” status can be there for months!

I forgot to add the link to the status meanings: <a href=“Log In ‹ We Admit: Penn State Undergraduate Admissions — WordPress”>Log In ‹ We Admit: Penn State Undergraduate Admissions — WordPress;

@jlhpsu‌, I am going to double-check tomorrow with the two people who I know who got their acceptances. I will use the info in the link you just posted, to be absolutely clear, and then get back. FYI, both were for Engineering.

Has anyone heard from Penn State School of Visual Arts? I am thinking that anyone that submitted a portfolio may take longer to receive an acceptance. What are some thoughts on that?

We got the email today as well. My daughter applied Sept 15th & HS sent her transcripts in early Oct. Her status has been ‘reviewing credentials’ since early Oct. From what I have seen in threads on CC it seems most people accepted so far are Engineering or SMEAL…Would love to know if those already accepted for 2019 got an email just before their acceptance…or if this indeed is an email that is just weeks late due to the volume of apps they are dealing with. I agree with fallschurchmom…this is not truly rolling admissions!

My d received an acceptance last week with no email notification. College of Engineering.

No…not really rolling admissions. I thought the earlier my D applied the better off we were…but the only date that seems to matter is the Nov. 30th priority deadline. AFTER that, I think it’s rolling. But prior, it’s anyone’s guess. My D asked in one of the chats how they determine application “order” and one person said it’s random and another said it’s based on many factors like GPA, which major you’ve applied to, etc… I think the second answer is better, because it is true that most people that have been accepted have been Engineering and business…but I think I saw one agricultural and a summer DUS and a few communications majors…so maybe it IS random…which is annoying, lol…

I’m hoping and praying that this e mail today meant that we somehow moved “up” in the review process…maybe to the next pile closer to the coming days status. But my gut says it’s just a stock e mail sent to everyone who has a completed application thus far. Although, it is worth noting that of those of us who commented here, most who received the email applied in Sept or early Oct.

@gatormom01 No e mail at all…like not even one saying her application was complete? I know they don’t e mail with acceptances…

My D applied to Rutgers Early Decision…application and documents were in on October 14 and she was accepted October 20th. Others in her school have heard from Rutgers within a week or 2 as well. THAT is more like ROLLING admissions. Why did we rush? We were told by PSU faculty/staff apply early…it gives you a better chance, but this doesn’t seem true…unless the apps are divided by major…I hope they are…haven’t seen/heard of anyone with my D’s major accepted yet.
