Penn State NSO

Hi all, my freshman orientation at Penn State is coming up, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much parents are involved in the process. My mother is attempting to take off work so she can go along with me, but I don’t want her to have to unless it is necessary. My father is definitely going. So, my questions are: how much time do parents spend with students at NSO? Are the separate parent activities important, or are they more “filler” activities? Is there new and crucial information given out (specific for parents) at NSO?
Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m curious as well, I’m going with my mother, but if you need someone to go with and we happen to be going to the same NSO, you can always join me! I’m going to the June 16th one. Offer extends for anyone else who may need a friend or someone to go with to NSO.

Thanks, that’s really nice of you to offer. Unfortunately, my orientation dates are different, but thank you again for the offer.

Parents will attend their own program. I’m going with my son but wife staying behind. For parents it will be general information. For students it’s registration and meeting other students

Mom can probably stay home. Both parents don’t need to go. Your dad can get the general info and bring it back. Honestly, we just dropped my daughter off as we live nearby. Your mom is not going to miss any memorable moments with you since you won’t spend a lot of time together.

Thank you!

All,

Did you make your Fall schedule at NSO?

S needs a copy of his Fall schedule for one of the scholarships he was awarded. His NSO is late June.

Thx

@STEM2017 yes. they make their schedule on the last day of NSO. i would highly advise making a preliminary schedule in schedule builder on his lion path account before you arrive.

@SAD1010 Thank you. Great heads up!

@STEM2017 If they need an “official” schedule, you won’t be able to register for classes until NSO. You can put them into your cart, but he really isn’t registered for them.

If the deadline is prior to that, maybe call admissions? Ask them to release the hold on your account and explain why. He could then schedule in Lionpath.

Thank you @lucyvanpelt.

One deadline is July 15, one is early August, so we’ll be fine, but the sooner we get them the docs they want, the sooner we lock in the funds.

@SAD1010 S made up a few different schedules and added them to his “enrollment shopping cart” but that was it. Once he hit submit, they were gone and he cannot access them - because he hasn’t been to NSO he’s not entitled to this area.

Do you know if those potential schedules will be there when he goes to NSO on June 27? I hope they haven’t disappeared.

By the way, he had fun working with the schedule builder. What a great tool!

@STEM2017 D19 did not submit to enrollment cart. She kept them on schedule builder. I hope they are not lost either. I’m really sorry for the miscommunication.

@SAD1010 No problem at all. I think they might be saved. Plus, he printed them out before submitting.

And we were able to reschedule to the June 11 NSO so that should be helpful.

Thanks for your help.

We did the schedule and it helps as classes that fill up you can schedule other sections… we head to NSO tomorrow… this hold is so annoying
