Guys, I got accepted to both these universities and don't know which one to choose. I want to go for a Biology related field(Neuroscience or BioMedical Engineering and preferaby, medicine afterwards. My family doen't make that much money and so this is a limiting factor. U of M is costing roughly 25 k while Penn State is put at 36 k. So the former should be better for me. However, Penn State would be a good choice for me since the students there have a 90-100 % acceptance rate of getting into the Penn State med school at Hershey. Well, I said it. Now, guys, all I need are your different inputs. Thanks very much in advance.

Are you sure? How many in-state pre-meds are there at Penn State and how many apply to Hershey?

Admitman, many pre-meds change their minds halfway through college. I would recommend you go for Michigan. Yes, maintaining a higher GPA would be tougher at Michigan, but if you do decide to change your mind about medical school, you would end up saving $45,000 (not a lot but still significant) over 4 years and you would probably have a degree that will carry you further.

Besides, I don't think that virtually guaranteed admission into Hershey (if that's indeed the case) means that much. Michigan students graduating with a 3.5 GPA and a 10 MCAT score have excellent chances of admission into Wayne State or MSU Medical Schools, both of which are as good as Hershey.

I second UMichigan. A UMich degree will open several doors including medical school

Woah, sorry guys, I put in the wrong Acronym. It's actuallyPenn State vs. UMinn - Twin Cities. Sorry for the error.

^ Heh heh...

The answer is still the same...go to U Minnesota and save the money.

Penn State is nice too, but what is your source on the 90-100% admit rate to Penn State's medical school?

Agreed with UCBChem. Minnesota is as good as PSU, you should be able to maintain just as high a GPA at both schools, and saving $45,000 over four years will go a long way.

LOL. The acronym problem again. A good lesson for all. Specify which school you want to attend by actually naming the school. :-)
