Penn State or Virginia Tech

I'm an international student, and I've got into Penn State University Park and Virginia Tech (and waiting for a decision from Purdue). I really need to accept an offer and start my Visa process. I've read many discussions here pertaining to the exact comparison, most of them have been posted in circumstances much different form mine (in-state for one of them; different major).

I really can't decide who's offer to accept. Penn State beats VT in the most of the rankings, but US News and Report's specialty rankings rank VT better for my intended major, Computer Engineering. Penn State is huge, but has more opportunities for research than VT. In my correspondence with the admissions offices of both the universities, I felt that VT was warmer and nicer.

I'd love to hear some opinions on which school will provide better opportunities for research, competitions (ICPC is what I have in mind), and getting into great graduate programs.

PS: As of now, if I get an offer from Purdue, it's bye-bye VT and Penn State! You can state your opinions on this too.

I would personally prefer either VT or Penn State over Purdue - both are all-around stronger and the town they’re in are nicer. VT vs. Penn State is a matter of larger/less so large, major diversity/tech school, gender balance/imbalance, more or less snow, closer or further away from NYC/DC/Philadelphia…

VT VT VT VT (the engineering program is matched and exceeded by few)

Both VT and Penn State have nice college towns, great school spirit, loyal alumni and very good recruiting. Good luck with your decision.

Alright, thank you all. I’m inclined towards Penn State at the moment because the only difference I could find between the two is the number of opportunities a student can take advantage of- and Penn State beats VT at that.
