Penn state/ pitt admission chances?

Hey guys my top two choices for college are penn state and Pitt- both for engineering.
gpa: 3.56
ACT math: 26 science: 26 English: 27 Reading: 22 writing: 10
ECs: Eagle Scout, student gov, varsity track, CC guitar club 2yrs weekly guitar lessons all 4 years. Week long service trips repairing homes in WV and 75+ service hrs all 4 years.
Currently taking 3 APs and had a B in honors physics. Any chance at getting into either engineering program?

*additionally I am in NHS and my high school has college prep curriculum for all regular classes and the grading scale is such that a 90-92% is a B+. This grading scale was sent with my grades to each school I applied to.

I haven’t heard back from Penn State yet, but I was deferred from Pitt Engineering with a 3.5 UW GPA (6 AP’s & 3.68W) and 27 ACT/1880 SAT, so you would be pretty lucky to get into Pitt main, though you will probably be accepted into a branch campus.

You’ll probably be offered a branch campus (Behrend?) rather than COE at Main Campus.

Despite the fact I’m in the middle 50 for act and gpa at penn state?

According to the bubble chart to be sure to get Main Campus with a 3.6 you’d need an ACT 31. With a 3.6 and 25, you’re toward the low end of the yellow dots and your odds are higher to get a branch campus for the 2+; other factors may nudge you to University Park, you’re still not in the black zone (where it’s not “branch but perhaps UP”, rather “denied or branch”)

You probably won’t make it into engineering at the main campus at Pitt. I got in with stats a little high than yours, but it was for the school of A&S which is easier to get into than the engineering school.

On the Pitt app there wasn’t really a place for ECs (at least not on mine) so they’re gonna pay even more attention to your tests and grades

Does applying early action help my chances at Penn state at all since I’m sorta on the bubble here

You can’t apply “early action”, since it’s rolling. If you applied in September you would have heard back already. Applying in Sept-October does help. But even then they would have wanted to see 27-30 in math and science for Engineering, and a strong program to back it up (AP Physics, chemistry, and calculus if your high school offered them, if not all these at Honors level with an A.)
Of those admitted, 50% were above 26, meaning you’re in the bottom half; since the bottom 25% are legacies and athletes, your odds would be about 1:4 for College of Arts and Sciences, but they are lower than that for engineering.
What are your other choices? Would you rather attend Behrend or another college? Where else have you applied?

University of Michigan!!!

Hm, are you in-state? Even in state odds aren’t in your favor at UMichigan. Have you applied to Michigan State or Michigan Tech, if you’re in-state? Where else have you applied? Rose Hulman, wpi…?
How do you feel about Behrend?

It’s university park or nothing

And I’m from ohio

I think you have a good shot to get into Penn State.

Thanks!!!XD

Penn State - Reach
Pitt - Reach
UMich - High Reach/Out Of Reach

Deferred by UMich…

Another thought…could I possibly be accepted to psu’s university park for DUS and then get into their ENGR program…I saw this happened to some people on the bubble

If you applied for engineering, you’ll be judged along the other candidats for CoE. Have you checked your page? Has the indication changed, is there a little picture?
Understand that odds are quite high that you’ll be admitted to a branch campus (Behrend is likely if they feel you can hack it in Engineering, otherwise it’d be another one.) You never know but keep your options open.
UMichigan’s deferral was to be expected, although it must be hard for you.
Where else have you applied? UMiami-Oh, OSU, OU, Case Western…?

Then why do some engineering applicants get put into DUS?
