Is there anything other way to have fun besides going greek?

bumpbumpbump

Of course!! There are so many things to do on campus, despite what people may say about PSU being "in the middle of no where"...it's really not! First of all....Penn State Football! And other sports too at the varsity level, club, and IM. And then there is THON which is a year long event. There's also tons and tons of clubs and things going on in residence halls. Think about how many people go to PSU and how many actually go Greek....obviously there has to be something else to do for fun!

downtown state college is beautiful. coming from atlanta, i thought it would just be a bunch of plains with a few small stores. however, when i saw it, it was beautiful. so many shops, bars, restaurants, etc.
you can also get involved with clubs & organizations, and don't forget THON. they have dodgeball events, dancing, etc.
there are lao house parties and such. i'm sure you'll love it. with 32000+ students, there are endless opportunities.

did you see what they did last night after the Ohio game?? YouTube - Penn State riot

You should probably be a football fan.

ahah yeah being a fb fan does help, but getting involved in any organization helps out a lot. There are plenty of things to do.

which out of these is best for a freshman?
berk
wilkes-barre
mont alto

I'm from the berks campus area (Im at main though) and its a very nice area. Although you would probably get that for most of the campuses though. My sis is looking to go to berks for her first two years, according to her tours, the dorms are brand new and larger than the freshmen dorms at UP.

Location of Berks is nice, right next to a major shopping center and far enough away from Reading, PA.

Could you describe the rest please

CollegeMom - oh it was crazy on Saturday but not THAT crazy. The video has boguc pics of riot cops in Europe and other nonsense at the end. The reporting from the Collegian is a bit more balanced. IMO - both the kids AND the cops got out of hand.

There's lots of stuff going on, lots of clubs, and always intramural sports. Also, check out this oldie but goodie thread from the past: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park/289619-some-things-do-psu-non-party-animal-those-tired-being-one.html?highlight=non-partier

My S is so busy, sometimes I worry about him, but he's really happy.

My son is a freshman at University park and there's lots to do. He wasn't a big partier or drinker in High school, actually a pretty shy kid. He's living on a special interest floor - Discover House - and is very happy at PSU (although he was hoping to live in East Halls with a friend from high school). He's found lots of good friends with similar interests. LateNight Penn state has lots of activities at the Hub every weekend - movies, crafts, all sorts of things to do other than going greek, drinking, etc. If you go to main campus and aren't interested in the greek or drinking scene, I strongly recommend that you look into some of the SLOs.

I don't know much about the other campuses. I think that many kids go to Altoona because it's so close to U. Park.

A friend's daughter went to Berks campus and had a bad time because her roommate had a boyfriend from Philadelphia who decided to live in the room with them. He reportedly wouldn't leave the room even when my friend's daughter needed to get dressed, etc. It took a long time for residence life to do anything about it. She also got picked up for underage drinking when there was a police raid on a house party that she attended. she ended up transferring. I know nothing about the academics at Berks.....

i have a question!!!
what is the % of international students there?
are most students from the states only?

Yes, at University Park, according to the latest Common Data Set (2007) 2% are international students. Section B2 is titled "Enrollment by Racial/Ethnic Category" and international students are included in the category "Nonresident aliens" here: Penn State Common Data Set - Campus
