Here’s a cruel twist. My s got notification that he got accepted to Schreyer today. But because he is applying to Musical Theater which relies on auditions, the program has not notified the students of their acceptance yet. 3 hours later he got an e-mail from the Director of admissions that the Schreyer acceptance was sent on accident because his university admission is still pending. From elation to heartbreak in a matter of hours. We are optimistally hoping that the Schreyer acceptance is real and that the Musical Theater decision is coming soon. Hopefully, since the acceptance came later than most, it means that Schreyer let the cat out of the bag for Musical Theater acceptances.

is ANYONE waitlisted???
@amomoffour my son got deferred decision which is different than wait list (post right above yours) He is waiting on an artistic acceptance from the Theater School which is looking more like a no.
Did your child get an actual “waitlist” for Honors college?
He did get a Schreyer Waitlist, accepted to PSU. You don’t think your S will get in??
Academically, he would have gotten into almost any other program. For performance majors like musical theater, only 15 or 20 kids get into Penn State out of 300 to 400 that audition. It’s “highly selective” for sure. He got accepted to Otterbein Musical Theater which is only 8 kids out of about 200 auditions.
@Jpkcmo Sounds really difficult, did they say Schreyer was just a mistake or would he have been accepted if he was accepted into his major?
They jumped the gun and sent out the Schreyer acceptance before the Theater Department had accepted him. The Honors college saw his application date of Nov 1st and thought they had overlooked his acceptance so they fired off the Schreyer e-mail and had to retract it just a few hours later. There is a long shot that he is still in the running to go to PSU for Musical Theater if some of the accepted kids choose to go to another program. Then he’d be picked up from the deferred decision list and presumably still be allowed in the Honors College.
@Jpkcmo It is difficult to watch, but trust that he will make his home wherever he gets accepted. It’s hard to watch as a parent, but I am sure it will work out for the best!
Anyone know why every hotel room within 10 miles of PSU is booked for the night of March 22? There is an Admitted Students Day and also the Earth and Mineral Sciences Exhibition (which we want to attend) on the 23rd, but these two events cannot be the reason every hotel is booked. Strange.
@STEM2017 There is a jazz festival at Eisenhower on March 22.
@SAD1010 That’s probably it! Thanks. Sounds fun. Makes me want to go even more.
A reminder that it isn’t too early to get a room for Parent’s weekend…
Rooms are already sold out for parent’s weekend - I just checked. And if you were thinking of going the weekend before, Penn State football plays Purdue. The weekend after, PSU v Michigan.
The place is sold out for weeks.
Oy.
@STEM2017 Does this mean you chose PSU over VT for S19?
@SAD1010 Funny. Actually, just trying to plan. Honestly, for S19’s major, PSU is better, but he has a big spot in his heart for VT.
It’s going to be a tough decision for him.
Anyway, I’ve hijacked this thread. Back to topic. Sorry all.
@wiggy24 any Schreyer decision?
@amomoffour I was waitlisted. The admissions counselor said 700 were accepted and 100 were waitlisted,
@pastalover10 That’s misleading I believe. They usually offer 600 and no waitlist, why would be offer 100 more and 100 waitlist?
