I just wanted to create this thread for myself and other students who are looking to transfer into University Park this fall, so we can get a sense of who they are accepting. I just applied so I haven't heard back yet. Where are you all applying from and what's your cum. GPA?

My info:
George Washington University (second-semester sophomore)
GPA: 3.53
History Major

I have a 2.58 GPA and just recently switched majors from marketing to economics. I’m a second semester sophomore at James Madison University and waiting to apply for transfer until after this school year, hopefully to raise my GPA a little bit

Don’t worry, the deadline isn’t until April 15th; I just applied earlycuz I wanted to know if I have to register for classes and apply for housing for next semester at my current school.
By the way, what do you think my chances are?

George Washington Univeristy, second-semester sophomore
History Major, Cum. GPA 3.53
First Semester: 2.68
Second Semester: 4.0
Third Semester: 3.9 (With one “w”)
Only caveat is that I bombed all my senior year high school classes due to the fact that I didn’t do any work in the second semester because I had already been accepted to GW early decision. And by bombed, I mean like c’s.

^I think you have a really really good chance of getting in, seawulf. But then again what do I know.

Also I thought for some reason it was just rolling admission for transfers. So will my 2nd semester grades this year get taken into account if I apply for fall 2013? This school year doesn’t end until May…

If not I may as well apply now to get it in earlier, right?

Thanks, I really hope I get it! Penn State is my dream school right now. And anyone applying for fall 2013 won’t be able to have their spring grades factored in, because the deadline for filing is April 15th. So if you’re looking to start there this fall, you’re better off just applying now because it’s rolling.

Just some info…my son applied on 10/30 and did not get accepted until the end of January.
I would suggest applying ASAP. We did see other students who applied after my son receive acceptances before him. The website states rolling admission???

Hi!
I am a successful transfer student. :] I started here at UP as a junior in Fall 2012.
I applied as soon as I had my transcript up to date after winter finals for the semester of Fall 2011, which is when I had enough credits to transfer. I also had all the requirements for my major (penn state has a transfer student website that provides info about this), and a 3.8 gpa. I was told not to worry too much about being accepted; the counselor I spoke to made it sound like I’d probably get in–and I did!

Submitted my application, just waiting on my transcripts to get sent now. Does anyone know if about 3 months normal for a decision like believe62 had?

Got accepted for the summer, which was a surprise to me but happy overall! I applied around the middle of January.
Transferring with a 2.8 GPA which was just General studies at a community college and I applied for Asian Studies/Japanese program at PSU. Mentioned my love for Japanese language/culture while also talking about my stay in Japan which was a few years back. Maybe that helped? haha

Was there an option to also be considered for the summer semester? Looking at my application it only says fall, but I feel like I would have selected summer as well if I had the option. Or do they consider you for both automatically? I see Ichigo got accepted for the summer and was curious.

I believe in the application you can choose from Spring, Summer and Fall. I checked Summer only. It was kind of a risk factor doing that because I thought I would have a harder time getting accepted for Summer, than say Fall, but I wanted to get a head start on my education.

Was anyone else asked to send in their 2nd semester grades before getting a decision? I think my GPA this semester will be lower than my cumulative gpa so I’m not getting my hopes up. I wish I would have known earlier; it’s too late to raise it enough to think about getting accepted now…

I got rejected today. International student with a GPA 3.89 from a community college in the Boston area. Natural Science major with tough classes like Organic chem 1 and 2, calculus 1, a semester with three lab sciences, i got all A’s except for calculus 1 i got a B. i also took some humanities so i won’t look like i only can do science classes. in two honor societies phi theta kappa and gamma beta phi. good EC’s, great recs, great essays. applied as a Bio major. I’m left a little shocked and wish i knew why i didn’t get in

Wow, just found out I got accepted today. Was not expecting that at all, especially with my 2nd semester grades. I’m really excited though, I’ve always wanted to go here!

I realize this is pretty late responding, but for future readers it might be useful and I didn’t find this place until just now.

I was accepted into PSU as a transfer student in mid April. My situation is a little different because i’ve already graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2007, but i’m returning to school fresh as a new major in Chinese.

My high school grades were good:
Unweighted GPA: 3.74
CUM GPA: 4.26

3 in my class, officer in 2 academic clubs and 2 non-academic clubs, plus tons of other activities and crap.

My college GPA was not very good at all. Double major Management/Marketing
Transfer GPA of 2.84

I graduated college when I was 20, don’t judge my terrible grades!

Since graduating I worked and I moved to China and lived/worked there for 5 years. I’m not sure if I was accepted due to my high school life, or the fact that I lived in the country that i’m going to study the language of for so long, or if since i’ve already graduated with a double major before, so they hope I can be successful even though my grades were quite poor.

The point is that even if you have a low college GPA and you’re thinking about going to PSU, there is still hope if you have a good track record, a ton of extra-curricular, or something interesting that sets you apart from others. Since my major is actually something that i’m very interested in and lived in for so long, i’m sure that helped the decision even though my previous time at uni wasn’t great.
