Penn State University Park Class of 2016 Admissions Decisions

Hi everybody!

Today i've decided to start a new thread based only on admissions decisions for those applying to PSU (and primarily University Park, Summer or Fall) to discuss nearly anything as the Admissions Office continues to hand out decisions.

I myself am currently still anxiously awaiting a decision. I would initially like to tell you about my own stats. I applied on Nov. 28th, with the following credentials:

GPA: 3.6 unweighted (school does not supply a weighted average)

SAT's: 1270 (2-part), 1990 (3-part)

Class Rank: Top 25% at start of senior year, likely to improve by 5% by the end

Extracurriculars: Limited, with a minimal amount of hours

Awards/Services: Similar to EC's, but with a couple of noteworthy awards

Personal Statement: Pretty solid i'd say, hoping they take a look

-Applying to the Department of Meteorology
-Applying for Fall 2012, but agreed to a summer session if necessary
-This is my first choice of campus by far

Overall, i'm about to the point of pulling my hair out from waiting. I am aware, that it has been barely more than a month, yet like any other student, that's hardly enough to supress my worrying.
Over the last month, I've been constantly checking not only my status, but several forum threads on this site, as well as "chancing" myself on various sites (ex, Parchment). I would like to note that i've found the Class of 2016 threads useful, and the "Ask me Anything" thread made by Duke very informative as well.
And although they are essentially the same thing that I am creating here, I felt that a thread of my own for further discussion would be enjoyable nonetheless.

Over this past month, i've picked up several tidbits of information (accurate or otherwise) that are worth noting:

It appears that PSU may hand out decisions to those guaranteed to get in or not early, and then the bulk of "on-the-fence" decisions throughout January.
Additionally, as with any college, decisions may be handed out in a time manner according to field.

Yet, after this unusually long holiday break, I am eager to be able to check my status starting again tomorrow morning, as the Admissions Office resumes decision making.

So basically, I would enjoy discussing many things with anybody who has applied for 2012. Whether it's general discussion about campuses or majors or activities, or somebody who has been accepted or is applying (and definitely put your stats down). And for those of you like me, still awaiting a decision, let's just HOPE that we get in!

You should have posted this on the PSU board. But I’m sure someone will move it for you.

Hey, i checked my admission decision! I had applied for Aerospace engineering! And i got to know that i ve been accepted! woohooo! Well, one thing i do not get! I did choose my intended major in the field of engineering i.e Aerospace. But then in the admission letter, it said i have been offered admission for Engineering(undecided). Well, i did choose my intended major! i Do not know why they said Engineering (undecided). Anybody got a clue!

boss12345 I know the way Penn State works is that you do not declare your major until you finish your second year in college. They do this because they know students change their majors very often, so just look at it as a benefit!
However, CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance :)

I am applying to Penn State as a Chemistry major, I just have to finish my personal statement and then I will be anxiously waiting like you, Jwestbrook12!
1900 on SAT 3.6 UW
Good luck to all other applicants.

Good luck to you Mango, I see we have similar stats!

I mainly worried about the field I’m applying for myself, but hopefully we both do get in!

And from what i’ve heard, unless you require additional review, it’s primarily stats (rather than a strong personal statement) that they will check. However, (although I hope you aren’t) you may of course need that review. I’m banking on mine to get me through if that’s the case.

And thanks for assisting boss with his question, i’ve heard similar in that field. Although it makes you wonder why they even let you choose a major in a field if it’s semi-irrelevant :o

@Mango15 - Thank you so much!!And do not worry! U have a great chance of getting in. I have got a similar SAT. All u need is a good personal statement!

Btw guys, where u all from? Im from Singapore.

@jwestbrook12 - True that!!

I’m from New York, about 10min from the PA border actually haha. Disappointing to me that 10min is the difference between paying some 25-30 thou. and substantially more…

Results threads are located on the individual college forums. There is already one started on the PSU-CP board, please post there.
