Hello guys

I am looking forward to pursue a degree in finance for my undergraduate studies.
I got admission in some colleges and ultimately have to make decison among these 2

arizona state university

Penn state

The thing is if I choose penn state then I will be staring as a freshman at altoona and after 2 years will be transferred to the main campus that is the university park. (basically the 2+2 plan)

So can anyone tell me what would be the correct choice keeping in mind the placements by the university.

I am an international student.

Thanks in advance.

Penn State is more prestigious and has a better social life atmosphere.

But is the 2+2 plan okay and will penn state offers better placements??

Can u please provide me some more details…

IDK Altoona and Arizona State are the same. Penn State University Park is better than Arizona State. Arizona State is cheaper than Penn State. Decision is up to you.

Many students do the 2+2 plan for Penn State, and are very happy with it. Penn State has an excellent alumni group that aids in career placement. They are also very well respected among employers, so you wouldn’t have any trouble finding a suitable position with a Penn State degree.

@extrempower-mate money does not matters… Its about the quality of education. I want the best like everyone who is coming to usa for studies. I want to major in finance as I told so I basically want the best among the two.

My uncle said that 2+2 may not be the best option and therefore he likes asu more. Therefore I m worried and confused.

Sounds good enough to me. University park after 2years… But well mate tell me one thing.
After I complete my degree in finance from penn would I get a job directly after the competion of my undergraduation?

Nobody (even your employers) won’t know about you doing the 2+2 program unless you tell them. You will get the Penn State diploma. Penn State has more prestige than Arizona State. Go for the 2+2 program.

If you are an international student, you will be able to work here for about a year after graduation with the OPT extension on your student visa. After that, if you have not found an employer who is able to get you an H1B (work) visa, you will have to go home. It will be almost impossible to get an H1B visa with an undergraduate degree in business. The only cases I have ever heard of where someone got an H1B with only an undergrad degree were students who had studied computer science or engineering.

In other words, you need to find out from potential employers in your own country whether or not they prefer graduates of PSU or ASU. A quick email to the career centers at each university asking specifically about long-term employment placement for internationals might be in order as well. Find out how many students with your major have been able to locate employers who were successful at acquiring the H1B for that person. Ask about limitations on internships due to your status as an international student, and how they recommend that you use your CPT and OPT time.

To be honest, in your case I don’t like the 2+2. To take best advantage of your opportunities as an international student to develop strong relationships with your professors, and to run the least risk of messing up on the whole CPT/OPT thing, it makes better sense to be physically at the same institution for all four years.

Mate I was thinking about the 2+2 and was thinking that coz penn state is ranked 46 therefore I may get a better value of the degree I will get.
What I have planned is I have to my undergraduation and then after working for a couple of years in usa I will do my mba from a ranked university and after that I will return back to my hometown. Basically I don’t want to stay in usa as I have to business with my dad.

So well any changes in your recommend now?
Penn state or asu.

Yes… Its ultimately the value of money and education is what I am looking for.

Still the only thing that is confusing me in choosing penn state is the 2+2 thing… If I got admission at universities park then it would have been a clear go.
Asu ranks in late 130 s or something while penn is 46…
So…

You can work here for 12 months after college with your OPT (Optional Practical Training) time. IF you major in certain STEM fields, you can apply to extend the time for about another year. Actuarial Science is the only business-related program on the extended time list. There are specific regulations about how long you can take between graduation and beginning to work, and the policies can change at any time. It is best to try to get a job that you can walk straight into after graduation. The International Students Offices at both ASU and PSU should be able to answer any questions you have about how OPT and CPT (working during the school year) function.

So basically, you are looking at ASU vs. PSU for four years, and possible placement for another year of OPT, after which you will likely need to go home for a year or two more to build up the work experience that will get you admitted to a good MBA program. After completing the MBA you would be eligible for another 12 months of OPT.

Is it possible that after my undergraduation, I will do the Opt and then just after that I will apply to the mba program so that I don’t need to go home… I m thinking to complete my mba as soon as possible with a year or two of work experience and then finally return to my home town and expand my dad’s business.

Btw I have a very awkward question.
Would my admission decision be turned down if I fail to achieve gud marks or even passing marks in one of my subjects (maths to be specific)?.. However according to my report I sent to the uni of my previous years showed my bad luck with math and apparently had just the passing marks. So well in case if that happens will the admission decision be changed?

86 degree today in Tempe what’s the weather like in PA? Looks like 42.

ASU is in a large metro area. Arizona was booming and will boom again. Depends on what you are looking for.

If the university doesn’t like your final grades, then yes the admission offer can be rescinded. However this would require a drop in grades so if your grade is at least as good as last year, you should be OK.

The better MBA programs expect a bare minimum of two years of increasingly responsible work experience. They prefer more than that. Read through the MBA forum here to get an idea about that whole issue. If you don’t care where you get the MBA there are a lot mire options including several places that offer online programs.

No mate I m not looking for mba.
I m looking for a major in finance…
So that’s y its penn state vs asu.

Just received acceptance form Ohio University and UCR. UCR S major is business economics.

So well till now after all the posts I believe Penn state wins the race. Any more comments are most welcomed here. It would be a great help if anyone else is willing to help me…
So well mates has the introduction of UCR changed the course of the race as I know UCR is a great university plus it is in CA, which is the best part of it.

Any suggestions mates?

UCR can be compared with Penn State but its very expensive out of state. Much more expensive than PSU. Are you comfortable with paying that much ? I think UCR is better than Penn State 2+2.

The problem with Penn State is that for two years you will be basically at a commuter campus without the full frills of a flagship school. I would pick Arizona or UCR, but keep in mind that you will be one of very few non Californians there and again a lot of commuters. There is not as much to do at UCR, not the amenities as one would find at Arizona.
