Penn v. Michigan?

I am not that familiar with Canadian universities. Engineering students I know generally prefer Toronto or Waterloo. If you were to rank Canadian schools for Engineering, where would McGill be placed? Is it even top 5?

Schmaltz … i have checked out those unis, waterloo ill go only if they give me more aid cuz life there is very boring, and as far as UofT is concerned … its more expensive than McGill what i have heard is that there isnt much of a difference between McGill and university of toronto in mechanical engineering. what do you say?

and yes where does McGill stand in engineering rankings in canada?

At Waterloo, you may be able to pay for most of your educational expenses through the co-op program, in addition to the experience gained.

“As a co-op student at Waterloo, you’ll have 16 to 24 months of work experience and $42,000 to $74,000 in potential earnings by the time you graduate.”

UofT and U Waterloo are on their own playing field in Canada. Both are exceptional. McGill is really not as well-known for engineering, but it has greater name recognition at large (if you care about that kind of prestige). I would probably rank them like this (based on personal research, both hard data and opinions):

UofT

Waterloo

UBC

Queen’s

Alberta

McGill

How good is the University of Calgary in engineering? I know they have a good chemical & petroleum engineering department … but how good is their overall engineering program in relation to the six on your list?

^ Pretty decent. Schulich (the U Calgary engineering school) has fairly high entrance stats, at least when compared to the relatively low averages at the rest of the school. On the downside, U Alberta is better known and receives more funding/emphasis, and U Calgary mostly attracts students from the Calgary area (the petroleum and geomatics departments are possible exceptions). On the plus side, I’ve heard that Alberta has better K-12 education than most other provinces.

I guess I would put it below those above as well as McMaster.
