lol, it’s really dumb to lie about freely available data.

I knew several people who transferred from NYU to Penn, or tried to transfer and were rejected (be it stern -> wharton or CAS -> CAS), but I never heard of anyone going the other way around.

NYU has come a long way since it was a commuter school on the brink of bankruptcy, but it still isn’t Penn.

NYC is a better city than Philly, but that’s precisely why I’d rather go to college in Philly. NYU doesn’t have a campus community and school spirit the same way Penn does. You have your whole life to do NYC, but only 4 years to do college (or 5 in my case…whoops! )

I would say: NYU is better than Penn at math and law and comparable in economics and business (NYU econ PhD students have placed better than Penn’s in the past decade and Stern faculty are about equal to Wharton faculty). I don’t know about philosophy. NYU is substantially better in the arts. Penn is better in pretty much everything else.

why are we discussing PhD programs? O.o
Penn is a much better school than NYU in almost all disciplines. I have a friend who turned down a full ride + 10k stipend / year at NYU for full cost Penn (then again stern vs M&T…)

muerteapaleo is lying.
NYU is Law is much better better than Penn Law. that is what US news says so.
NYU applied math is #1 in the nation, because US News says so.
NYU Finance Econ PhD is beter than Penn. Look at the cross admit data.
NYU 's arts, film studies , etc. are also better than penn.
NYU’s mathematical finance program is better than Penn.

Penn and the surrounding area is insanely gay friendly, I have gay friends there that absolutely love it and have never had any problems at all. You have two very good choices, they are my two favorite schools that I have spent time at, I think either it will work out very very well for you.

Wait, you’re wrong about all of those except for the applied math - which I had already admitted - and film studies, which we had never discussed. But NYU’s math and film studies are better than literally every elite school (if NYU is #1 in both categories), so I don’t see how that argument furthers your position relative to Penn. As usual, you’re cherry-picking between specialized departments at both schools.

The fact that Penn’s reputation score and average departmental ranking are both MUCH higher than NYU is proof enough. Do you know what those are? They’re freely available online.

By the way, your failure to respond to my questioning is very detrimental to your argument, and, frankly, is highly unsatisfying. Please start making more sense, or I will report all your posting about “■■■■■■■” and have you banned. But I’d really prefer to probe your bizarre neuroses.

Your move.

Check your sources kiddo. NYU Law is 6; Penn is 7. That’s not much better.

^ And plus, ranks aren’t everything.

I would choose Penn law over NYU…

NYU’s flagship program Courant Institute of Math is #1 in USA.
Penn’s flagship program Wharton is only #5 in US, which is worse than Northwestern.

NYU also has better name recognition than Penn, which is often known as one of the state school in pennsylvania.

Name recognition is a very important component of prestige.

LMAO!!! NYU has better recognition? Yeah, there are thousands of international applicants who disagree with that every year.

So, name recognition is a very important component of prestige. Ohio State University is extremely well known. Is it prestigious? No.

Give it up, dude.

Rankings don’t say everything. Last year, Wharton was #1. This year, it’s 5. Oh, and for undergrad, Wharton is #1.

Assuming that’s true, then that only matters if you care what a random person on the street thinks. An employer, however, recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of schools better than most people.

plus, wharton is 5 for MBA, thats only one program. In most of the other programs Wharton ranks amongst the top three.

On Wallstreet, Wharton’s MBA is among the top 3 (along with Harvard and Stanford, and it is undisputed at the top for undergrad - for both liberal arts schools and undergraduate business schools).

For what it’s worth, the Financial Times of London has long ranked Wharton’s MBA program as #1 in the US and, until this year, as #1 in the world:

Penn does not have a flagship program. It offers degrees in dozens of fields, nearly all of which are close the very top of academia. Wharton, due to its influence on one of the most public spheres of discourse, has become the most famous - but that does not make it the “flagship” by any means. That denigrates the rest of the school, as though the other departments (medicine, psychology, history, English, whatever) aren’t as important or prominent.

Fail gugupo, go bother another forum

Isn’t there some way to block/mute individual posters?

washington square is nice but locust walk is better

Both NYU and Penn are great schools.
However, NYU has better applied math related programs and better finance econ programs than Penn.
