"Though Penn’s incoming freshman class in many ways resembles past years’, a record-setting matriculation rate, among several other differences, sets it apart from the pack.

Of the 20.8 percent of applicants admitted to Penn – down from 21.2 percent last year – 66 percent have chosen to attend, the highest student yield in the University’s history. "

Columbia gets a lot of talented students that apply just for the name, since it has a really prestigious name. But on the flipside, Columbia has 2 extremes about it that people either love or hate: New York City, and the CORE!

just curious, w. out US NEWS, would have Penn become sooo much more popular i mean, i feeel like all of the kids on this board are soo driven by US news, it is not even funny...

But it's not just US NEWS rankings. There are many other ranking sources that all have Penn within the Top 10.It's funny, everyone says that rankings shouldn't matter, but we all seem to be addicted to 'em. I will tell you that companies study/watch those rankings more than we do.

saintofme a friend of mine has a relative that works at USNEWS and she mentioned that it was very likely that penn would be moving up to 3rd tied with yale.

i hope so. that'd be sweet. and very different from what people have had me believe during my HS years, which is that penn is a "second-rate" ivy.
