Penn's Campus

I'm surprised to hear Penn's campus being called big. I believe it's the second smallest in the ivy league after Columbia, and even if it isn't, it definitely feels really tiny after about a week of being in Penn.

cujoe, is Sansom Place a high rise? We visited Penn yesterday with S (in the pouring rain). He is a hs junior, but very interested in Penn. He also seemed to think the high rise dorms were the way to go. He has been at boarding school and has had plenty of the "quad" atmosphere.
We really loved the Penn campus, even on a cold, rainy day. Our tour guide was excellent (junior in the Wharton School) and everyone was friendly and helpful. S met with a coach and they ate Chinese food (from a cart) in the coach's office. The whole experience felt very right to us.

MomofWildChild, the eating of Chinese from a cart on 33rd Street is a mjor Penn (and Philly) tradition. Did you get it from the one next to Franklin Field, or across the street? My personal favorite is the one next to FF, but both are awesome. Crazy traditions like that are what make Penn special.

thomas have you gotten your housing assingment???

I will be living in samsom west...

Actually, knightmare, Penn is second largest after Cornell. Yeah, its a bit weird to see an Ivy with 3 hospitals on campus (Harvard's medical center is across the river from its main campus).

Next to Franklin Field. You had to get your drinks at the next cart- no drinks at the Chinese one. Awesome food.

bern700. No, I haven't sent in my app. and $25.00 deposit, yet. Are they already assigning rooms in Sansom EAST/WEST? I read that they were not going to start assignments until May 1. If this is not correct, PLEASE let me know. I will send in my app/fee this week.
bern...Which layout did you choose?

wait, ihavent gotten my housing info yet, how did you get it already or is this different?

well im an undergrad an our housing assignments came in last week. I'm not sure how graduate housing works...i figured it was the same. I chose layout 22. I went to look at my room and the living room and kitchen are pretty big, the bathroom was decent, but the bedroom is really small.

momofwildchild... sorry not to get back to you sooner, but i too am a hs junior looking at penn ;) my sis goes and lives there so that's how i know it... yes it is a high rise, but not the new ones, more like midsized towersish? er... um but most freshman will live in the quad, still very nice

When I was at Penn last week, they told me that Sansom Place East/West does have "traditional" undergraduates there, but that it primarily houses graduate students/adult-undergraduates (me). Does anyomne know if that is true?

yeah it is true, im a fulltime traditional undergrad and im living there next year.

Thanks, bern. I'll see ya this fall. Does Samson fill completely up, or do they usually have empty rooms?

undergrad as in not freshman... freshman mostly live in the quad*

did ed accepted freshmen get housing stuff yet? I didn't get mine yet

Yeah, I tried to walk into the courtyard of the Quad, but they have a gate that needs to be accessed by a PennCard. Even I did get past the gates, there is a "rough" looking female, security guard in a little cage just a few feet from the gates :) So, I didn't try my luck at her. The Quad looks fairly nice, although I'm not sure what kind of shape they are in on the inside.
I really liked the size of Sansom Place.

thomash32, it's beautiful the quad is... and you can get a visitors pass from the admissions office to go venture... sansom place is really nice, but if you're unlucky, u can get a dorm thats um... abused by it's previous owner?

haha!!! Thanks, cujoe. I'm just hoping that Sansom Place doesn't fill up quickly so that I can get a room. Each semester I will probably have to take at least one class in the evening in the CGS/Wharton Evening building, which is on Market Street. Sansom Place is close enough that I could walk to the CGS/WE building.

yea, it's very centrally located, but if i were you i'd hope for the new high rises... beautiful on the inside

Are the new high-rises part of Sansom Place?
