What a great graduation speech by Jodie Foster. Not everyone can quote the great EMINEM, but she managed to do so with poise haha.

that was corny...wait ..isn't she an actress?

Oooh, I saw that. It was really cool!

lame......

Here is an interesting article for you to read:

<a href="http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/MikeGallagher/2006/05/19/198001.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/MikeGallagher/2006/05/19/198001.html</a></p>

^that is the most pathetic and downright boring article I have ever read. "wah wah wah damn liberals wah wah wah yay conservatives" . just plain sad...

^Says so the guy with a videogame nick.....

Edited:

Nvm your right =P

I agree with parts of the article. I heard/read parts of the speech, and I really don't think that it was appropriate of her to use the Penn graduation ceremony as a soapbox for her political views. I don't even like Bush/Republicans, but I think what she did is cheap and underhanded.

The article is ridiculous.

I wonder which reruns she watched =()

I'm not sure if the commencement speech at UPenn was the most appropriate situation to raise one's political ideas...it should've been more objective and more general.

The Gallagher column is what it is, an OPINION column and he's entitled to say what he wants. Nonetheless, we don't have to take it seriously.....its just another misguided far right conservative ranting on.

They've been complaining about American academia as long as I remember...

i was actually at the commencement, and the actual political talk took up about two minutes out of eighteen...

Furthermore, Jodie didn't place blame directly on President Bush. When she mentions the Katrina screw up, she says "our leaders," which implies President Bush, Mike Brown, and even Democratic mayor Ray Nagin and Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu.

I thought the speech was very good. If Gallagher would bother to do ANY research (I reailize it is not a strong point of demagogues on either side of the aisle), he would have seen that there WAS formal protest of Ms. Foster's selection as commencement speaker, and even a letter from the class president to Amy Gutmann and Ron Daniels.

I, too, had my doubts, but when I heard Jodie speak and actually LISTENED to what she had to say, it was hard for me to imagine a better person to give the commencement address. And by "better" I don't mean more prestigious or more powerful or more influential in world politics, but someone who could actually relate to the students.

I watched Kofi Annan's address last year, and it wasn't anything particularly meaningful. A politician would have given us talking points and sound bites, but Ms. Foster gave us anecdotes and observations that were relevant to college students, and imparted wisdom that was surprisingly acute and poignant.
